We're looking for hardwood logs that we can cut split and cut ourselves for firewood, anything from 4"-2 foot in diameter. Any suggestions of where we might be able to buy some at? Not looking for already cut firewood. Thanks!
craigslist, in the for sale section, under "free". there are people all over the place offering "free firewood" for you to come cut up and remove some trees that fell in their yard or that hey had cut down but didn't want to pay for cut up and removal.
I would be remiss, if I didn't point out that what some people consider "firewood", while maybe wood, and will burn, is not necessarily wood that should be burned in a fireplace. Pine is one of the worst woods that you can burn in a fireplace. It's soot and ash (called creosote) will line the flue and cause a fire hazard. Please be careful when selecting wood to burn in a fireplace. (Yes, you did put "hardwood" in the title of the thread, but others who read this thread may not be quite as aware) Finally, don't forget to have a chimney sweep come out at least every other year to clean and inspect your fireplace and flue.
Thanks for the tip but that's what we've been doing so far, which is checking on craigslist but it's either pine or gum or too far away.
Thanks Cliff for pointing it out,we were already aware of it but as you said many people are not. We have a wood stove and it get's cleaned out every year.
