There's a new facility that was recently built behind Foodlion at 40/42. What is it? Is it a retirement center? If so, what is it called? We're looking for something in the area for a relative that is getting up in years, yet is still fully able to drive, take care of themselves.

I believe it is an apartments/assisted living facility. Might be what you're looking for.....

Not behind Food Lion, but nearby. We are looking for something similar for my MIL.

The third development to come will be multiple new facilities for seniors.

First, there is an assisted living facility that is near completion near Johnston Medical Center. Gabriel Manor is a 74-bed center. The facility is expected to open in the next month.

The second new senior center is the area’s first nursing home to be built in the same area near Johnston Medical Center. It will be a 100-bed nursing home.

There are also plans for an apartment complex for seniors in the Riverwood Athletic Club subdivision. The Riverwood Place Senior Living Center is a 60-unit apartment complex for seniors 55 and older.

A second apartment complex for seniors, Stallings Station, is planned on Shotwell Road south of U.S. 70.

A development that will improve quality of life for residents of all ages is the expansion of Johnston Medical Center.

The hospital, which currently can not house patients overnight, will have a 50-bed in-patient facility by 2015.

Now, patients who need to be treated overnight are transferred to Smithfield, but the expansion will prevent the extra travel out of town.

All of the new developments mean population growth, and a need for new services, said DeYoung.

One new restaurant scheduled to break ground in the next couple weeks is Char-Grill, the town’s first locale for the famed Raleigh chain.

Char-Grill will be located on U.S. 70 near Bank of America.
