This afternoon I heard gun shots with in my development. It sounded like it was coming from across the street from me, maybe even in the woods between my street (River Oak Drive) and the main entrance(Sommerset Dr). My neighbor behind me even called me cause she had heard it. It was between 3:30 and 4:00. Anyone else in south Plantation hear it?
I am no gun expert but just when I google "what is the range of a bullet" I come back with this: .22 Long Rifle (40 gr RN) Muzzle Velocity 1255 ft/s Maximum Range 2000 yard, 1.14 mile Impact Velocity 300 ft/s .223 Remington (55 gr SP BT) Muzzle Velocity 3240 ft/s Maximum Range 3875 yard, 2.20 mile Impact Velocity 545 ft/s 30-06 Springfield (180 gr SP BT) Muzzle Velocity 2700 ft/s Maximum Range 5675 yard, 3.22 mile Impact Velocity 800 ft/s 9mm Luger (Parabellum) (124 gr RN) Muzzle Velocity 1120 ft/s Maximum Range 2400 yard, 1.36 mile Impact Velocity 350 ft/s 45 ACP (230 gr RN) Muzzle Velocity 850 ft/s Maximum Range 1800 yard, 1.02 mile Maximum Range, Impact Velocity 330 ft/s 44 Magnum (240 gr FP) Muzzle Velocity 1760 ft/s Maximum Range 2500 yard, 1.42 mile Impact Velocity 350 ft/s Well how close the gun 'pop' was almost any of them could of hit a house in my neighborhood, it could of hit my office window and hit me. I know this is Johnston county but firing a weapon in a neighborhood is never a good thing.
If these are things you are concerned with then might be best to move in the city. Sound echo's in the country..... And during those hours it is legal in JoCo to shoot.
Don't know, it is a possibility. I know and have seen my neighbor behind me actually do that before. It's just odd to hear it from the front of my home.
wouldn't worry about it, like others said, it's Johnston Co. plus with the scarcity of ammo as of late I don't think many people would be wasting it shooting at nothing.
If you don't like living in the country, move to Cary. In JoCo it is perfectly legal to shoot on your own property during daylight hours.
