I really am not trying to play politics with this one. I am trying to make an informed decision and help others along the way. As I stated above, my insurance agent and HR department are still learning on this and I know this is your business but you keep quoting one source, which is not the government.

I would like your opinion on why we have such a variance from state to state. I don't understand the huge variance. Would you explain that to us?

Sorry it is all about politics when so called Representatives legislate what I do in regards to my body and life.

The government does not have any right to demand I have health insurance. Look at every department or program the Federal government has implemented or touched and you will see a program with rampant abuse and increased cost.

Any moron that does not expect the same with government healthcare has blinders on!.

If you want to see people die in a hallway while waiting for a hospital room or procedure by all means go to Canada and stop trying to force their Socialist ways here in the United States.

    BCBS Health insurance renewal

Got the notice from BC in the mail. Our son's plan went from $97 to $258/month (if we decided to keep that plan). I will be jumping onto the health insurance exchange on 10/1. So much for the "affordable healthcare"

Some of you are going to slam it no matter what. I wish people would just wait, do some research and see what happens. I hope it is all for the best. I wish we could have had the Public Option but we didn't get it so let's see what happens with this.

Wait and see? Moron, people on here are giving you factual data about their 2014 premiums. This dumpster fire of a bill was all rainbows and unicorns....until now. Rubber has officially met the road.

This is going to kill the Dems in 2014 and 2016. Independents overwhelmingly hate this **** of a health plan.

    Single payer? Jesus .

That's the thing - this is his job; only 6 areas of responsibility

    1. Chief of State
    2. Commander in Chief over military force
    3. Chief Executive officer over the whole executive branch of the government
    4. Chief Diplomat in handling foreign relations
    5. Chief Architect for needed legislation, ie: ratify or veto
    6. The conscious of the Nation, granting pardons or reprieves when he feels justice requires them

I don't see anything on there about health insurance, do you?

Yes, Cleo, it is the President's job to help the people of the United States of America. That's why we even have a Jobs Act proposed.

Good to see that the 40/42 scheisse-slingers are still at it. I lost count of the number of times "moron" or "idiot" were thrown out in this thread.

The OP asked an honest question.

In our family of 3 I currently have no health insurance, we have my wife + son on a self-pay BCBS plan with a really high deductible (basically a catastrophic plan). We got a letter from BCBSNC stating that this plan was no longer available, and we'd have to switch to something else. At first I was mad, but after looking at the estimated costs of different plans that are supposed to be available under the ACA (Obamacare if you prefer), we will be able to get a plan for all 3 of us for about double the current cost, before any subsidy.

Believe it or not, we were happy about this because the reason I don't currently have insurance is because the BCBS rates were way too high for me to afford.

IF the estimated subsidies are anywhere close to reality, we will end up paying about the same amount out of pocket for better coverage for all 3 of us under the ACA as we were paying just for my wife and son.

    I just hope it happens.

Disclaimer: NO I am not a screaming liberal Obama lover, but the healthcare system in this country is COMPLETELY SCREWED UP and I for one am glad someone is at least trying to do something about it.
