There’s a Reason This WWI-Themed 2014 Christmas Advert Inspired by Real Events Has Gone Mega-Viral

100 years ago, on the Christmas Eve of 1914, a series of sporadic, unofficial truces spread across the front lines of those fighting in the trenches of World War One.

That moving moment is documented in a new advert by Sainsbury’s, a large supermarket chain in the U.K.

The cinematic masterpiece features soldiers cautiously abandon their trenches and exchange greetings with those with whom they had been fighting. In the nearly four-minute ad, the two sides compete in a soccer match before the soldiers walk back into their trenches and pull out gifts each had exchanged.

The New World Trade Center Elevators Show The Evolution Of Manhattan From 1500 To Today

The observatory on the 102nd floor of the new One World Trade Center will be open to the public in late May this year. And when it opens, this is what visitors will see on the ride up.

The elevators, which travel at roughly 23 mph, contain nine 75-inch HD monitors. So the trip up to the 102nd floor gives visitors the illusion of riding in a glass elevator, offering sweeping panoramas of Manhattan and a historic timelapse of the island's skyline from 1500 to present day.

We start in a marsh, reminding us the current site was once underwater, before seeing familiar landmarks such as St. Paul's Cathedral, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building rise up around us. At 1,268 feet above ground, the One WTC observatory will be the third highest in the Americas.

Pretty cool showing the evolution of the city, the 911 issue hit me a little hard because of the understated way they handled it.

    Thank You!
