Because there are people who are transgender there and because there are other people who would deny them the access to the restroom they should use. Two Reasons Why Bathroom Access Is Also a Health Issue 1. USING APPROPRIATE RESTROOMS IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF TRANSITIONING. The most critical aspect of gender transition, according to the internationally-recognized medical protocol set by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, is to ensure that a transgender person is able to live, be seen and be treated by others in a matter consistent with the person’s gender identity. Getting used to using the appropriate restroom is an important part of this process. Moreover, transgender people must take this step well before proceeding—if at all—to medical interventions involving hormones or surgery. 2. “HOLDING IT” MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. According to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Hazards Administration (OSHA), delaying going to the bathroom when you need to go is unhealthy, and so, workplace policy may not encourage it. This is not to mention the dehydrating effects of trying to avoid using restrooms by limiting intake of liquids, another common strategy for TGNC people navigating uncomfortable bathroom situations in the workplace and at other public. IF YOU’RE BEING HASSLED IN A RESTROOM ABOUT YOUR GENDER EXPRESSION… Stay calm so that you can read the situation and figure out whether or not you’re safe. You can always leave the scene if you feel threatened and come back later with a friend to file a complaint. Report the incident to a manager, owner or someone in charge. Explain to them that you are using the restroom that matches your gender identity. Educate. Show them this toolkit! Explain that transgender people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and are harmed by being denied access to appropriate restroom facilities. If you are still denied access to the appropriate bathroom, you can file a complaint with your local or state anti-discrimination agency. Denial of access to the appropriate bathroom for transgender people could be considered sex discrimination under the law. You may also live in one of the dozen or so states or over 125 cities and counties where there are specific protections against discrimination on the basis of gender identity
BS, You agreed with everything in the post. Re-read it and quit being ashamed to admit the truth just because wayne won't admit the truth.
Bull, where's your proof they were denied by anybody before Charlotte made this political ploy law? We already have laws to prevent assault wayne.
I am not privy to the information the city council has on specifics, but the general data does show a pattern of problems with transgender people and access to the bathroom facilities up to and including battery. You do not have to be assaulted to be prevented from feeling comfortable using the restroom either. The information from the professionals seemed fairly clear on that aspect.
I know you don't but it hasn't kept you from shootin that mouth off about it for weeks. General data? OK, Mr facts.
You asked for specifics on the reason for the Charlotte action which is not generally available. You assume they had no valid reason and I disagree based on the data available from other sources on the issue. Do you have any specifics to indicate the Charlotte action was not due to a valid local reason? I mean if you have one standard for others you should use it for yourself as well.
So you can't even prove why it was needed but want me to prove a negative which is why it was not needed. ***Why don't you beat your wife any more wayne?
Well you seem to assume the Charlotte Council had no valid reason for passing the ordinance without any evidence to support that belief. I cannot read their minds so you want to claim I have no proof of why it was needed, other than the people most closely involved making that decision with their local information because you dislike their decision. The fact the ordinance is in line with the court rulings concerning transgender people in the workplace and school make this nothing more than codifying federal law on the local level for clarity much like the NC discrimination laws mirrored the federal laws until HB2 modified them.
MORE horse manure from wayne because like usual his mouth has overloaded his ars. Because the town council is so much better than house members at making decisions? Maybe the PTA will have more information than them? In other words you've just been shooting off your mouth without facts to support it. Typical liberal.
Here I thought the mantra of local government knowing more about the people was more than just lip service. I see that is not the case. There are a lot of facts which can and should affect such a decision, however you seem to be incapable of a civil discussion on the matter. You should take that to the Pit if you want to make such generalized attacks.
