Hi. Just want to see if anyone that was on the bcbsnc local plan with duke/wakemed this year has found anything comparable for 2019? We do not want to lose our specialists for our children that we have been seeing for 10 years at Duke. The only plans I can find for Johnston County residents only includes UNC as in network. I have looked at plans through the ACA and individual plans outside of it.We do not have access to a corporate plan, and we looked into ambetter but they do not cover johnston county. Just thought I would reach out to fellow Johnston county people to see if anyone had any better ideas. Thanks in advance for any help.

Except when the private companies decide to change their network like they do all of the time.

I had the opportunity to speak with an agent that had information on the new policy being brought out that covers Duke. Based on the older BCBS policies that had Duke in the network rather than UNC there is a huge difference. The new UNC only BCBS policies are cheaper than before. The similar old BCBS policies with Duke are almost double the cost with the new provider. What is now a ~$2000.00/month Silver policy with BCBS was ~$2400.00 previously and with the new provided is almost $4000.00 per year. Some of the new Duke plans will run from $6000.00 to $22,000.00 per year more than the comparable BCBS UNC plans. I suspect Duke will be negotiating a new BCBS policy network next year.

For folks who are on Medicare A and B, the AARP Medicare Complete plan thru UnitedHealthCare includes Duke, Rex, UNC, and Wakemed. These plans cost either 0 or $28 per month premium, includes Rx. You can call UnitedHealthCare toll free 855 209-7419, for info and/or local agent. It is Open Season now , ending Dec 7, 2018.

My wife liked her doctors in the Duke system but BCBS dropped them from the plan options. Duke said there was another group which would provide insurance plans using Duke and that was true. The comparable plan to what we had in 2018 was only about $22,000 per year more than the new BCBS plan. My wife will be using non-Duke doctors unless there is some reason to pay the out of network differences even at that it would take a lot of visits to equal the price differential. Duke and BCBS told us when looking to transfer the records to the new doctors that tens of thousands of people were having to switch and the system may be slow in dealing with the influx. I imagine Duke and BCBS will come to an agreement for 2020 after the quarterly earnings reports reflect the new paradigm.

We have BCBS, and we don't have to pay that much! But still, I have other problems with BCBS, especially their Prior Authorization. Every single year, when I get my medications at Walgreens in Dunn, they need a prior auth. And it takes DAYS, if not YEARS to accept. But they don't have to worry about me for the next 12 months.

Our BCBS is not that much either, but it does not include Duke. The figure is how much MORE it would have been to go to a plan including Duke.

Obama had what to do with BCBS dropping Duke from their plans? Insurance companies have done the same thing for years and you just missed it or tried really hard to ignore it.

(and I COULD keep the doctors but I just have to pay EXTRA for it.)

Lower the rates and exclude Duke or more than double the rates to include Duke .... that was the choice for some 40,000 insured

    https://www.bizjournals.com/triangl...th-exchange-plan-preserves-coverage-lost.html

Ambetter, a new health exchange plan, offers to maintain coverage for patients who may be losing their current local Blue Cross plan. The new plan, provided by Centene, aims to help the approximately 40,000 patients affected by BCBS’ decision to discontinue the Blue Local exchange plan in 2019.

In July, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina filed to lower its Affordable Care Act rates by an average of 4.1 percent and announced it would no longer offer the Blue Local product with Duke Health and WakeMed. The plan is expected to be replaced with one that does not include coverage of Duke and WakeMed providers and facilities.

The Ambetter plan will allow affected patients to stay with Duke and WakeMed providers and teams through 2019. Additionally, all Durham and Wake county residents who purchase the health coverage through the exchange will have options including the coverage of the WakeMed and Duke systems.

“Ambetter of North Carolina is pleased to have reached an agreement with both Duke and WakeMed to provide care to our members in the North Carolina exchange market in 2019. We look forward to offering competitively-priced options for quality healthcare,” said Brent Layton, Executive Vice President, Chief Business Development Officer, for Centene. “These partnerships ensure Marketplace enrollees in Wake and Durham Counties have access to leading physicians and healthcare systems.”

The exchange plan will be the only one available that offers in-network benefits for both Duke and WakMed systems. It offers convenience, a variety of options and diverse levels of health care service to its plan members.

“We are very pleased that Ambetter will provide an exchange plan in Durham and Wake counties in 2019 that will allow our exchange patients to maintain uninterrupted continuity of care with their Duke providers,” said Thomas Owens, MD, president of Duke University Hospital and Senior Vice President, Duke University Health System. “It also provides a plan option for new exchange patients in these counties that offers the flexibility and high quality of both the Duke Health and WakeMed networks of physicians, facilities and convenient locations.”
