<sigh> I LOVED that radio station, it is all I listened to (because I am too poor for a Satellite radio subscription). Man, where else could you get "Burning down the house" while making dinner? You could also get the same three Bob Marley songs alternated every day, but that was beside the point.

Where do I find radio/music streaming online? Any suggestions of a good site?

I actually thought they went to Classic Rock. They have been playing a lot of old rock songs lately.

"It will be interesting to see what ClearChannel is going to do with 106.1, and if the Triangle's radio gods actually think that we need to be flogged with "Beast of Burden" each day by three different stations."

    Amen, Brother!

All I can say is either I listen to CD's or tune into 96.1 - which is really playing some great tunes these days!

However the way that they formatted 100.7 recently (before switching back) was pretty cool for the folks who wanted music at work that wasn't as sappy as the "Sunny Station" nut that wouldn't offend some non-hard rock customers or co-workers...Thank God I work for myself and critters don't care what I listen to ;-)

too bad they are not here. so over classic rock at this point. 100.7 / 96 rock/ 106.1 they are all the same station. How sad the radio market is in the triangle. very limited and no signs that it will get better.

Well as of today 106.1 is off the air. They'll be back Monday with John Boy and Billy, but no word I can find on the format? I liked 106.1 when I was in the wife's car. I have XM radio for my truck and at work.

106.1 is now The Rooster 106.1 and its a country station. So that makes what, 47 country stations in this area? Pathetic.

The Rooster is running promos pointing the classic rock fans to 100.7.

Hope someone picks up Bob and Tom.

OK...really no explanation, but I was a 106.1 Workforce member and I got this email from 106.1:

    Dear RDU Workforce Member,

We wanted to take a minute to confirm that 106.1 RDU is now a thing of
the past, and to thank you for 22 great years of loyalty and support.
We hope the station has brought you a lot of pleasure and enjoyment over
    the years.

Before signing off for good, we wanted to mention a few things to you:

Although we'll no longer be playing rock at 106.1, our sister station
100.7 The River has recently fine-tuned their format and features lots
of great classic rock. You'll find a lot of the tunes and artists
you've enjoyed over the years on RDU at a new address. They're playing
lots of Stones, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. and we
think you'll enjoy spending a lot of your listening time with 100.7 The
    River.

And, if you've been a fan of John Boy & Billy and have enjoyed listening
to them over the years, we have great news. The guys will be back on
the air in the Triangle, right here on 106.1, starting on Monday. The
music between their bits will be different, but the comedy and other
elements of the show are as funny as ever.

In closing, thank you again for being a part of our RDU family. It's
been a privilege to bring you the greatest music ever recorded,
outstanding personalities and some pretty cool memories over the past
    two decades.

Good luck to you and your loved ones in the future. Keep rockin'!

    Signing off,

    106.1 RDU
    The Triangle's Classic Rock Station

    RADIO WARS

    RADIO WARS…

106 RDU has gone to The Rooster – COUNTRY
Wonder how Bob The Blade feels about that?
I rarely listened to RDU, (don’t even know if The Blade was still there), but was always impressed with his ability to stay on the air on one station for so long, but speaking of “so long” unless he changes from riding a Rock and Roll Harley to a Country Horse it must be curtains, and who would want to ever switch from an Iron Horse to one that craps in the street.

I’m not a plugged in executive but I think 96rock’s ratings have been doing well lately and must have been nailing RDU’s balls to the wall, (as AC/DC would say), so the big corporate enterprise that is Clear Channel switched 100.7 to mimic the old RDU, (this makes sense now), and have The Rooster 106 locking-and-loading for a country war with Curtis Media’s continually #1 Station, (of all formats), 94.7 “Today’s Best Country”.

This now pits 100.7 “The River” against 96.1 “Everything That Rocks” and it can only mean that The River will be running with blood when 96 beats them senseless with Everything including Rocks.

But when all is said and done, I’ll still be Funky…!
