"Poles" will be open? What do a bunch of Polish people sharing their feelings have to do with the election? Are they behind this effort to get beer into local grocery stores?

Kind of sad ... I think more people showed up to vote for beer than to choose our local leadership during last year's election.

Many people are familiar with ice cold beers. They are our dependable friends. You can't say the same about the local candidates.

An interesting piece of history is that Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian who had at most an occassional beer. By contrast, Winston Churchill left many an unpaid bar bill. FDR had his 4 or 5 martinis every night. Hmmmmmmmm..................

Around here is is not "ice cold beer". There is no such thing. People dont drink ice cold beer, they dont even drink beer.

    Its all...."cold beer".

"Hey Jimmy...lets go out and drink a few cold beers".

Maybe I'm crazy....I dunno. But I think it's great that I can now buy beer at the same time I buy all the rest of my groceries. It's kind of nice to not have to make an extra stop on the way home. It's also nice to have a wider selection of beer. It's also nice to get way better prices on beer. Let's not forget that now, the Cleveland area can grow and prosper without anexing and becoming part of Clayton, which would make taxes go up. Yeah I must be crazy.

How soon do you think until Food Lion brings in beer?

As far a Lowes Food or Harris Teeter, it will be a while. They may have plans setting and ready. I did see surveyors at the 50/42 corner the other day. But permitting and approval can take 6 months and cosntruction I would guess 12-14 months. Maybe spring 2008.

    Is there beer yet?

Not at the 210 Food Lion but I think that is over the line of the Voting District.

What about at the 40/42 Food Lion or DR Wells?

The referendum was only for Cleveland township, so Hwy 210 is not included. They do have beer in Food Lion at 40/42, and it's quite a bit cheaper than the C-stores. They seem to be building a new section of coolers there, too, so maybe a greater variety is coming soon.

Cleveland Township is bounded by Middle Creek on the south, so anyplace south of that will still have to get a liquor license to sell beer, and that involves serving food and having seating for at least 30 people.

My neighbor said he saw someone at the food lion at 40/42 with beer but couildnt find out where it was in the store.

I remember back when they had the vote a few years ago the manager of that food lion was quoted in the cleveland post that he hopes it doesn't pass because he doesnt have room in his store to carry beer

It's over on the left at the front part of the store. If you remember when they used to have an in-store pharmacy, over in that area. Most recently, they had chips & snacks there. You'll see black plastic hanging from the ceiling along that wall, where I think they are putting in more coolers. If the manager didn't want the referendum to pass, my guess is he didn't want the competition from Lowe's or Harris Teete.
