My daughter wears a camouflage jacket we picked up at a thrift store. It has several patches on it: 916th Air Refueling Wing Air Mobility Command and The thingy on the arm that has stripes and a star She loves this jacket and wears it all the time. Today, a teacher in scool told her that she could not wear the jacket to school because she was breaking the law wearing the jacket with the military patches on it. Is this true? She loves the patches as well as the jacket and we hate to take them off. Without them, it's just a camo jacket and she likes that it's a military jacket.
To the best of my knowledge there is no law against the wearing of military uniforms. Atleast there wasn't when I was active duty. Craig
There is no rules that say you can not wear patches on a jacket. The teacher or who ever is wrong or lying. Esp. since we are no where near a military base wear she maybe confused with an Active duty person. I can only assume that this is a fashion piece by what was written. The only thing that a school could even use is buried in their hand book not wearing clothing that is disruptive. I doubt that a couple of patches and a Airmans rank badge could be disruptive but there are no laws on any books that I am aware of. Tell the school to stand down they have crossed the line. This should be brought up the the teachers boss, the teacher either needs to be more informed or told to shut the hell up. As a vet this kind of thing pisses me off....
Thanks for the info, that's what I thought. It pisses me off too. She likes the jacket as it is, because to her, it is her way of showing her support for the troops (something she is very serious about). We're keeping the patches on. The teacher can call me and we can discuss it.
I believe they were recent laws passed regarding things like wearing Purple Hearts you did not earn. I also doubt this applies to patches like these.
And how recently was the last time someone was actually arested and tried under USC 10 alone? Not to mention that half of the military surplus stores would be out of business if this were truely enforced. This is just another point in the Cliff has to be right scoreboard. Craig
Maybe, just maybe it was a camoflage jacket that someone bought at Cabelas and put patches on ? Did you know Clif that you can BUY patches online?? It's NOT against the law. http://www.priorservice.com/milpat.html
Sorry you feel that way Clif, but honestly I'm not gonna stoop to the level you have just brought this thread down to. Especially since you FAILED to answer the question I posed. If all you can do is make accusations concerning someone's intelligence, or point out in lighthearted joke threads the reality of things then you might want to think about another avenue of communication other than a discussion board such as this. FYI I am ex-military with an honorable discharge, and in the entire time I was in I NEVER saw anyone in the civilian sector get reprimanded, arrested, charged, what have you, for wearing a military BDU coat or pants or combat boots, and yes I saw plenty of dependants off base wearing such at the malls and stuff. Craig
Hey HG did you know you can go to any town supported by a military base and find said items in local thrifts stores, complete with patches already sewn on? Craig
Youy mean like "This is just another point in the Cliff has to be right scoreboard." Yep, real grown-up of you. Sorry, I thought it was rhetorical. I don't know when anyone was arrested, triad, and/or convicted under Code 10. Given this day and age, though, post-9/11 and all, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't happen a lot more than it did. Be that as it may, though. The fact remains that there is a law, which you as a veteran (as well as rjfields) should know, as it was taught to you in boot camp. Again, I refer to your first firing of a salvo. The fact that no one was convicted of the law doesn't mean the law does not exist.
Actually the UCMJ I was taught did not cover the discussion of USC 10 at all, otherwise I would have known of the Code. As thinking my question was rhetorical, it sure didn't sound that way to me, especially since you are the fact provider here I was asking a question which still hasn't been answered. As for me first firing a salvo I was mearly making a factual statement, which you have proven to be factual time and time again here on this discussion board. Now as to who fired the first salvo my comment and statement is wholly factual based on your own continued actions here, meanwhile your statement "Better to be right than wrong or ignorant (or in your case, both)." was directly aimed at me, which you have no real evidence on which to base your statement of my intelligence. Craig
What a bunch of Crap ! If the little girl wants to wear the Jacket, let her, for cryin out loud. And personally if she feels that she is supporting our troops she can wear it any time and any place she wants to, as far as I'm concerned.
Well Clif I am so sorry that I mispoke. I bow to you and your power to look up stuff on the internet. You are a God among men I shall shield my eyes from you and your greatness... Wear the coat, jumper, blouse whatever you wanna call it. I am sure that Clif and his peeps will not have any one arrested for it. I would hope if nothing else was going on in JoCo the Bizzle is to busy making sure he stays in office.[/quote]
