I am looking to get my daughter's first haircut/trim somewhere where they cater to kiddies because I know my daughter will have a tough time with the chair, the scissors, etc.

I found a place called peek a do (not sure if that is correct spelling) but its in durham (southpoint) I hate to go all the way up there for a haircut.

can someone give me any ideas.

    Thanks

    Ro

    First Haircut

It is a little drive but worth it. Snip Its at Briar Creek by the airport. They are wonderful. I have a special needs daughter who won't let anyone near her head including mom without a fight but she loves to go there and they always give her such a cute cut.

I did hair for 14 years...a tip to make things less stressful for you, your child, and the stylist -

    1) If possible - Bring her in once for a few minutes and let her sit in the chair and meet the stylist - even if it's for 2 minutes - This will help her feel more comfortable when she goes for her 'do'

    2) When it's time for the appointment, tell the stylist how you want her hair done - with or without bangs...how short etc...and LEAVE - Get out of the vision range of your little one and out of earshot...children - the majority of them - are much less figity without their parents around. Plus, parents tend to hover and there is nothing worse than a nervous parent on top of you when you have a sharp insturment in your hands, and a wiggling kid in your chair.

Lots of stylists will smile and tell you it's fine for you to hover, but deep down inside, most would prefer you got the heck out of the way. I can say that now, since I no longer do hair :D

its like taking a toddler to a dentist and the child doesn't want anything in her mouth...same things with scissors...you don't want it on the hair. Especially if its their first time....they are not sure what is going on. I explained to her seerval time as to what they will do...she said "ok" but we will see.

I have to say that Teresa at Fantastic Sam's recently did my daughter's hair. She did a great job on her long hair!

Lots of times children pick up on their parents anxiety. Don't sweat it- the stylist has delt with first timers before and knows several ways of putting young children at ease.

I used to play a game with the little ones....I would ask them to pretend they were a statute for a couple of minutes at a time...this worked very well...especially if we were one on one. Children, are like dogs...no offence intended, but since animals are my area of expertise nowadays, I can tell you they behave much differently when a groomer is brushing them than their owner just as an obedience instructor can take the leash from a frustrated owner and like magic, the dog/puppy does exactly what it is supposed to do...it is all about confidence, communication and the child or pet responding to a stranger.

Like I said, don't sweat it, leave it in the hands of a professional and chill out, it will be fine.

I'm going to go off on a tangent, but what else is new, right? :D

My daughter is (somewhat painfully) waiting untill she can have 10 inches cut off all at once. She plans to donate the hair to the folks who make wigs for people who have cancer and lose their hair from chemo (I can't remember their name --CRS disease can be a b****.) She decided to do this all own her own after hearing that my sister had done it. (And she is almost getting used to me brushing out her hair every night. )

I think it's called "Locks Of Love" or something along those lines...................but I also suffer from CRS, so don't quote me on that!

We ( Fantastic Sams ) collect donations for Locks of Love. We have had many children donate their hair! I think it takes a very special child to donate, we all should take example.

One little Lady of 8, donated over 10inches & she had wanted to donate since the age of 5yrs!

So I say Praise them & Thank You for helping make a child's or adult's life Happier!
