It's that time of year again. Time for me to start the major arguement (and probably tick off Cleopatra).

The question is, Do you believe in Santa Claus?

No, I'm not talking about the Santa Claus as the spirit of Christmas, as Francis P. Church wrote to little Virginia.

Neither am I talking about some Turkish bishop from the 3rd century or other notable legend.

I'm talking about the real guy. Ho, ho, ho. Flying reigndeer. Lives at the North Pole. Etc, etc.

Be honest in your poll vote, but remember there might be children reading these posts.

There is NO "real" Santa Claus. No Flying Reindeer, No elf, no Mrs. Clause at the North Pole.

My parents thought they were slick and hid our presents in the attic. I found them though.

Isn't that a little like saying, because you find the answers in the back of a math book that there isn't really any math?

In my house, if you do not believe, you do not receive...so Yes, there IS a Santa Clause!

Hey, I don't think that's fair! Or, at least, it makes this very difficult.

I believe very much in S.C. You can see him/her/it all around about this time of year. I think SC is very closely related to the Holy Ghost and works in a similar fashion. Perhaps it IS the H.G. reminding us all to "love your neighbor as you would yourself." I would like to see SC come around more often than once a year, but maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

Advent season starts 12/3. Are you ready?

I believe in Santa Paws -- I know a couple of them personally.

Some of the "die hard's" hate me for this but in my house we don't teach about Santa Claus as a real person. We teach that the reason we celebrate Chistmas is to celebrate Jesus' birthday. No big fat guy climbs down the chimney (since we don't have one anyway) and leaves presents under the tree. Besides, what gets me is that when a child is taught that this happens and they get nothing or very litte for Chirstmas because their parents cannot afford to, it would hurt their self image as to think why Santa loves another child more than them. So, my kids are taught that we give gifts at Christmas is because gifts were given to Jesus when he was born. Sure, we wait until after thay are in bed to put the gifts under the tree but that is just for them for a surprise. I would not trade that wonderful look on their faces for anything.

Same for the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc, etc. It's hard for anyone to believe in something they cannot see let along telling a child all of their life about Santa and then springing it on them that we have been lying all of that time. Do they, then, think because they can't see God that He does not exist, either? I would rather not confuse them.

I just don't see a problem with maintaining a little "magic" in childhood. I don't remember feeling "lied to", just let in on a big secret, but maybe my parents just did a good job with it and I had younger siblings to think of. So far kiddo still "believes" although he did ask about it a couple of years ago when he was five and I told him you didn't get presents from Santa unless you believed............. it took him about .002 seconds to pipe up that he believed, LOL! He's asking lots of questions which lead me to think this will probably be our last year of it, but I am enjoying every minute! Childhood is short enough as it is in my opinion. And yes, he does know the true meaning of Christmas, not just the secular celebrations.

    :?

    Completely different Cliff.

 So what are you going to tell your kids when they are in school and the other kids say there's NO Santa?
They'll be in the attic looking for presents!

The day some fat dude comes down my chimney, he'll be sporting some "lead"

I never saw it as my parents lying. Maybe just looking out for my best interest at the time. Some things NEVER change

I always believed in Santa when I was a child, but my parents also taught me the true meaning of Christmas, and that is what I have done with my children. I'm sure my 12 yr old doesn't belive anymore, he asked me a year or two ago if there was really a Santa, and I told him it was up to him if he believed or not, but if he didn't, that was ok, just don't flaunt it in front of his younger siblings and ruin it for them. :)

As the father of a 5 year old, I am saying yes for as long as I can. Watch Polar Express, or Miracle on 35th st (the original), and you will say yes also.

If its so hard to believe in something that you don`t see,,,,,then Do you believe in GOD? JESUS? You cannt see them!

I believe in the reasoning behind Santa, as I do belive the power of an imagination that when a child knows the true meaning of Christmas and still can believe in Santa or the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, its exciting to a child to believe in those things. There is no disapointments when the truth is revieled as long as they know its trueness.
