The Board of Directors of the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association (GCAA) has set a public meeting on November 28, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss future programming, capital improvements and volunteer opportunities. The meeting will be held in the gym on the Old Cleveland School Campus at 8994 Cleveland School Road, across from The Cleveland Emporium and the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department. The Greater Cleveland Athletic Association is a non-profit volunteer organization that provides athletic opportunities to the youth of the Greater Cleveland area of Johnston County. We invite all parents who are interested in the future of youth sports in the Greater Cleveland Community to attend this important meeting. For information about us visit our website at www.gcaasports.com.
This announcement had perfect timing. Could you please give me a good address for the GCAA? I've sent a registered letter to their PO box in Clayton twice, and the first time it was returned to me after a month of the post office trying to deliver it, and as of last week, the second one had not been picked up either. Thanks a bunch!
P.O. Box 10 Clayton, NC 27528 Is our only mailing address. Because our Treasurer picks up the mail probably after Post office Hours. It would be difficult for him to get a registered Letter. I would just mail it and we can email you when we get it if you need confirmation.
You could send it delivery confirmation which would show it has been delivered but does not need a signature.
It's the same kind of principal, if they are picking it up after hours, they couldn't sign that they'd received it, right?
You're right, I could. But I really have no interest in attending the meeting. I'd rather the letter just be delivered, lol.
Can we please keep this thread dedicated to the notice of the special meeting we intend to hold on November 28, 2006. While all meetings of GCAA are open to the public, we are looking to hold a special meeting directed towards the parents of the children in our community who benefit from the activites provided by the GCAA. You do not have to be a parent to attend, anyone interested may come. As previously noted, the meeting will be focused on future programming, needed (and/or desired) capital improvements, and the need for volunteers from the community to keep the program alive. The GCAA board is an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We have no paid staff and we receive no tax payer funding (excluding grants in which we have to apply for and compete against other non-profit organizations in Johnston County), all funds received through player registration fees and team sponors are spent on the good of the program. As a board, we will be conducting our annual board meeting on the second Monday in January, January 8th, 2006. Those who are considering joining the GCAA Board of Directors, while not required, I strongly urge you to attend the meeting on 11/28/'06 to learn more about who and what we are. We will need to fill several seats in the upcoming election, these seats need be filled by members of the community dedicated to the community and the children we serve. I personally believe the orgranization is a critical juncture. We have had some difficult times in the recent past, we are recovering but we have a long way to go. Further, as a board we realize we need all the help we can get, we are looking to the people of the community for this help. Our greatest need at the moment is people. We have struggled to maintain our roster of directors at capacity (our bylaws allow for 24 Board of Directors), presently we are below capacity but are deferring to fill any further open posistions until the upcoming elections in January. The desire is to keep focus at the meeting and provide any and all information we can to the community. Each sport committee has been asked to prepare and present a proposed program for the upcoming year (you might have seen the recent picture in the Cleveland Post regarding the local team that won the CASL tournament in Raleigh two weeks ago, what a great accomplishment for those young men -- more of that to come). Changes are likely to be in store for some sports, softball for instance is considering a different league in which to play. We have not been satisfied with the results from the Johnston County based league over the past few seasons and are considering a change, other sports will just continue to improve on what they already offer, I've even heard talk among some board members of expanding the program to include additional activities. Questions will be welcomed, we will attempt to answer any and all qeustions as best we can. Complaints will be better addressed in a different capacity, perhaps at a meeting of the Board of Directors itself (we meet on the first and third Monday of every month at 7PM in a room of the Ag building located directly behind the gym), via our email address caainfo@4042.com, or in person with any member of the Board of Directors. Please, I want to see the bleachers in the gym full -- perhaps you can't volunteer the time needed to work as a Board member, but we always need help in other capacities as well -- parent volunteers who help with what the they can and when they can (phone calls for drafts for instance), help us clean up the facility from time to time, we will be having a work day December 9th, there is a great deal to get done for the spring season and it starts right now. The members of this community have had a huge impact on our programs in the past, we need more of that support now. There is so much you can do for the kids of the community, all you have to do is ask/offer. We NEED help, we are asking for said help. This program will succeed or fail, for it to fail all we have to do is nothing... Regards and thank you, Randy Tice
Sorry Randy, didn't know you were the "thread police". The topic was the GCAA Board, and I had a question for the GCAA Board. Through a PM I've been able to get my question almost answered, lol. You should know better than expecting a thread to stay on topic here, it almost never happens.
yeah, I know Jen -- no big deal, and I'm glad you got you questions answered -- you can always stop by a meeting as well, the next one is next Monday, the 20th. I'm not trying to police the thread in any way shape or form, but I did want to stress the importance of this upcoming special meeting we've called. It is outside of our normal meeting dates and is directed at the community as a whole, what with the upcoming elections for Board of Directors, the need for new people to step up and volunteer their time with the program in general (and I'm not speaking in terms of coaches, rather non-coaches interested in working with the general operations of the program to make it succeed). I am sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, and now that I'm back in town if you still need to send something to an address vs. a PO box let me know or just send it to my home address, addressed to GCAA and we will get it. Thanks, Randy
No big deal! I actually ran into one of your new board members at the county softball meeting, and he invited me to be his guest at your community meeting, so I think my husband I and I are going to attend. If the post office has returned my letter for the second time by then, I'll just hand deliver it. Thanks!
The board of directors would like to thank all that showed up at the meeting last night. We had great input from the parents in attendance and we cultivated some new volunteers. We also learned a lot about the level of interest in our program. We are continuing our search for board members. If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities or open board positions, send an email to caainfo@4042.com Thanks Robbie Watson
