Hey guys, I know it's early, but with the impending birth of my second child, I'm just not sure I'm gonna be up to organizing anything in December.

For a few years now, a few of us have gotten together and tried to make sure that a needy family had a great Christmas. Many of you have donated your time, money and effort towards this local cause.

For the next week or so, I'm going to be taking nominations for needy families (you can send me a PM if you'd like). I'll pick one, maybe two, depending, and then let you all know what is needed and wanted. This should give us a little more time to get things going.

If you'll recall, I'm always careful to verify the validity of these stories. Our money and gifts won't go to some scam artist.

So put your thinking caps on and let me know who needs some help, and I'll keep you all updated here.

    Thanks!

Count us in to help. We're blessed beyond our hopes, and want to share.

    Jenn,

Let me know if I can help with anything. I have more time than money these day so would love to help with any of the running around etc...

    Thanks for doing this!

Jenn, you know you can count me in for a donation, won't be able to be of much help in running around though.

"You can also check here as I hear this was a good program last year and there has been little information provided this year. You can PM Jennifer S if you do not want to post on the forum."

I first would like to say thank you for replying to my post. I am hoping to give my children and much needed Christmas this year. My husband Rory and I moved our three children Brooklyn, Jason and baby Ryan to NC from FL back in August. I grew up in NC but moved to FL with my family after my dad died in the line of duty as a firefighter in Garner on April 8, 1993. My mother just died this May 13th, the day before Mother’s Day from Lung cancer, so I knew I wanted to bring my family here and raise them the was I was raised.

Because we made such a big move we have to start our lives over. My husband has a job in sales and is waiting for the company to take off so he can start making commissions. Right now we are struggling to pay the every day bills. I have Multiple Sclerosis and it affects my eyes therefore I am not able to drive very will at night so I am not able to work because we cannot afford daycare for 2 children plus after school care for one. We are just trying to be patient and wait for my husband’s job to get up and moving.

We live in Clayton right near 40/42 in a great neighborhood called Smith’s Creek. We have a really nice house we rent and we drive decent cars and because of this those items they take up most of my husband’s paycheck. I applied for food stamps and was told we make $75.00 too much each month. It’s not easy feeding a family of 5 on $40.00 a week. They do not look at what you spend to put a roof over your family’s head only the amount of money you make. My children were able to get Medicaid as our insurance from Rory’s work doesn’t start till mid January. A friend of ours owns his own business and does have Rory come out on the weeks occasionally to help and I sell clothes our kids have out grown on Craig list and 4042.com to help make ends meet.

My children have been patient and have learned to do without a treat from the grocery store, toys whenever they want it; they have even given up the loved McDonalds. They are starting to understand we just don’t have the money for those things. When I hear they say they want this or that for Christmas my heart aches because I know I can’t give it to them. If I can get some kind of help this year I promise to pay it forward as soon as I get the chance. If there is anything I can do now please let me know.

    Thank You,
    Erin D. Clark

Contact local schools and talk with the principal. I'm sure they can advise you of some needy families.

Also, I belong to a group of moms called Mothers Unlimited. We're sponsoring several needy families. We contacted Partnership for Children of Johnston County and they gave us the names of some needy families.

    Hope this helps.
