My car broke down on the way home from Fuquay today. I called AAA for a tow, and while I was waiting for the tow truck, 20-25 minutes, 5 different people stopped to ask if I needed help. Thank you NC! :D

Not to say there are not friendly, helpful people in other places, I know there are good people everywhere, and I have met good people everywhere. But today's experience was really over the top. Most of you know I'm a Yankee transplant, but I've lived here over 20 years and I consider NC my adopted home state.

I had a similar event. tried to make a three point turn, and went into a ditch..car frame grounded, couldn't budge it. Within 15 mintes, we had a crowd of 20 or so, two people with tow straps, three big trucks whose drivers volunteered to do the pulling...I was thinking..man if we had a keg and a grill, we could have tailgated it...
    Keep paying it forward.

On my way to work this morning on 440 saw a big truck with big bales of hay pulled over and the man was changing a lady's tire. Made me smile.

About two months ago my blazer broke down at the Target at white oak. I figured it was the battery. The battery is about 5+ years old. I went into the Target to call AAA and it took them 90 freakin minutes to show up. In that time i had about a dozen people offer to help. One person even helped me try to jump my blazer to no avail. When AAA did finally show up all they had was some guy with a little battery charger to try to jump me. He didn't even have a wrecker or a flatbed. It took another 45 minutes for them to get a flatbed. I have the AAA gold card for just such emergencies. The tow truck driver didnt want to tow my truck out to smilthfield to my mechanic. He wanted to drive it to the closest big box chain mechanic. But enough brow beating of AAA here locally, but i found all the people who stopped to offer help was amazing compared to places i have lived before. AAA did call and ask how i liked the service and i ripped the service a new one.

The service I got was great. They sent Sherrill's Towing, out of Angier. They told me the tow truck would be there within an hour, but it turned out to be less than half an hour. The driver was friendly, professional and competent; he loaded the Tracker onto the rollback and brought it to my house. I just have the basic AAA, so I just get 3 miles of towing free and then I have to pay mileage over that, but it was way cheaper to get my car home than if I hadn't had AAA. My son came after work and fixed it, so everything's cool. I would certainly recommend Sherrill's for anyone who needs that service.
