Help! Our downstairs a/c unit is not blowing cool air nor is the fan running on the outside unit. Tried flipping the breaker, double checked the air filters, etc. with no luck. Can anyone recommend a good a/c repair person? Thanks in advance for any advice. (Oh, the unit is only 3 years old.)
We came home to a 85 degree house on Saturday. Our unit froze so the A/C stopped working. Not sure if this is your porblem but sharing in case you want to try ...set thermostat at about 78/80 and turn only the fan on. Let that run for an hour or two then try the a/c. Our fan did start right away when we did this. Keep the fan running with the a/c until the repair person can come. Our unit is on numbered days. Mike from Mike's Heating and Air is coming today to recharge our freon and hopefully buy us a few more months. Mike has already extended the life of our unit as we've know for about 1.5 years that it needed to be replaced. Our house is only 8 years old. Mikes Heating & A/C Service Phone: 919.934.4148
I had the same problem in June and it was the coils under the house frozen up, defosted that and then cleaned the coils and it works fine now..thank god I wasn't the one under there lol, had a friend do it. Sheri
If the above doesn't work, give Arctic Air a call at 796-4681. They are local and will do a good job in my opinion. Tell Buddy "Dawn" sent ya.

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations. We ended up using the company that installed the units. I called this afternoon and they were here this afternoon. The part was still under warranty (run capacitor) so just had labor charge and trip/diagnostic charge. Plus we have a/c downstairs again!
OHH, I was gonna say it sounds like the capacitor or the motor contact switch. Ours did the same thing about 2 weeks ago and DH narrowed it down to one of those 2 items- you could bang your fist on the metal housing of the outside AC unit and the fan would start turning and AC would blow cold in the house. He saw that the contacts on the motor switch were kind of burnt looking so replaced that and all is well again!! He said that if that didn't do the trick he was 99% sure it was the capacitor- seems to be a common failure and not very expensive (in terms of parts). I think the contactor switch was like $20... I love it when my tinkerer husband does stuff like this!! BE VERY CAREFUL if you decide to work on your own AC system- make sure you turn the power off and have an idea of what you are doing- otherwise just call someone to do the work for you.... Kel
Yep, if I have touched it, it would have cost 10 x what it cost. Second that cutting the power thing off too. Blew out our lights on the microwave oven not remembering to do that, not to mention the flying sparks I had to dodge.
AC repair I recommend Britt's Mechanical. 829-9922. I used them twice and there was a grey haired man, Steve (?) who was very nice, professional etc. I would definitely call them again and ask for the same repair tech.
