What's with our Sheriffs Dept providing traffic control on Sundays for 3C church. Seems to me the Sheriffs Dept could better utilize their time fighiting crime and providing the services which they are meant for.........Yeah I know some of you are going to say they are providing a service to the community but they don't provide this service to other churches in community........looks like a lot of votes to me.......makes you wonder doesn't it.

    ???????????????????

Maybe C3 is paying them to do it.

to hell with that. maybe c3 needs to pay to make another damn turn lane. what makes those people leaving c3 so much better than me? why should i have to stop and wait for them to get out? hell no, i have right of way, you will wait. tell c3 to make another lane or pay to put a light in.

I don't have that much knowledge about C3 other than what I've read on here. However, I will say that obviously traffic control falls under juradiction of the Sheriff's Department, not unlike rural funeral precessions and such or special escorts. Unless they are dedicating too much manpower for these worship services, I don't see that much of a problem. Its just community growing pains in a once rural setting. To me, I would think that this is a county/state issue that should be addressed to get a turning lane or light or whatever is needed to alleviate problems. It sounds like the traffic control is a band-aid on a situation that needs a more permanent solution.

Of course it depends on the Sheriff as to his/her policy on traffic duties such as the one mentioned here.

Most churches I've seen have paid for the services and the deputies were off duty doing some part time work.

Even if the deputies are on duty, they are constantly listening to radio traffic and are 10-8 (ready for duty) for any other calls that would have a higher priority.

As for waiting for the traffic to clear, I personally wouldn't be incensed to have to wait a few minutes while members of C3 or any other church exited the parking lot.

There is also a safety issue involved.

If no deputies were there, then all the church traffic would have to watch both ways to enter the roadway, and there may be the possibility that someone wouldn't see another car coming from either direction.

I also agree that it wouldn't hurt for DOT to assess the situation to see if additional lanes are needed at that location.

I live a long way from C3, but have worshipped with them once, and look forward to going back again, soon.

They are a great asset to the community.

If I am not mistaken C3 is in the process of adding another driveway to the church that connects to Josephine Road right behind Polenta Elementary School. They have been aware for some time now that traffic can be bad on Cleveland School Road before and after some of their services. I believe it is their intention to have one drive be the enterance to the church and the other one will be the exit in order to help with the traffic situation. I would imagine that the officers directing traffic are a temporary answer to the problem.

Using the Sheriff's department to handle traffic at large church's is hardly a unique situation to C3. There are several churches in Raleigh, Cary, and Apex that utilize their services as well. It is much like any "event" where there is known to be a highly concentrated area of cars. (funerals, sporting events, concerts, etc.) I don't see anyone complaining about the sheriff's department helping traffic at any of those events.

This message board will "jump all over" anything related to this church when they are doing nothing out of the ordinary for other churches their size.

So, you are condemning all of us?

Personally, I have not said anything either for or against the sheriff's traffic detail. Nor do I "jump all over" anything related to any church. In fact, many people on "this message board" would agree with you that it's not uncommon, nor improper.

Rather bad form of you to declare that this message board in toto is against C3 or against the sheriff's department providing traffic duty for it.

I am not trying to start an argument. I'm just a local person who casually looks on this board and is surpised by the different posts regarding this church in the last several months. I'm sorry if it came across if I meant "everyone" was against the sherriffs department.

My point was that "many posters" (NOT ALL) seem to jump on every thing that happens at this one church and question it and I don't get it.

I'll go back to lurkdom because I truely was not trying to start an argument.

Can't we all just get along?

Same here. Not so unusual that it needs to be marked down though... ;)

I can understand that! I haven't been by C3 during worship hours but I have been by St Ann's on 70 going towards Smithfield!
I recommend that any one passing through as services are letting out to either change your route, the time of day you pass by, be prepared to possibly ram some one from behind or be prepared to hit the ditch. I think some get impatient waiting for an opportunity to pull out when it's safe to do so, so they just go. Then proceed to pull over three lanes to do a u-turn to go back towards Clayton.

So, if your timing is right (or rather, wrong) no matter what lane your in, you lose.

(My Mommy lives in Smithfield so I travel 70 quite often)

Ok If I remember correctly C3 pays for the service. Highway Patrol actual has jurisdiction on 1010 HWY.

Even if they do not as a former Police Officer from Raleigh. I had to do the same thing for churches, funeral homes etc. It is a courtesy. Remember they are public servants.

If you feel the Church needs to put in a turn lane & a light with to which I agree They are going b4 the board to be rezoned a business now instead of just a church since they have a starbucks & a bookstore going in there. This information was published in the Herald on Friday I believe. Sorry I do not recall the time when that meeting is.

I have to say one thing though when there is no one there to direct traffic on several occassions including this past Saturday night I have been practically hit. They come out of that parking lot with no regards for anyone else but them selves.

Ok... I usually know just enough to get into trouble... but... If it is considered a public service, and being of service to the public is (part of) what they do, then why is it a paid service? And who pays? ...and who gets the cash?

I's jes wonderin' ...puttin' off laundry, as usual.

Well, maybe the sherriffs dept should control traffic around schools instead of the church.

    c3

C3 church cares nothing about anyone else but c3...they are all now using the c3 stickers on their cars so eveyone knows where they go to church. All their money is spent on them and making their church better. You can't even get in touch with the "pastor" without going thru the ranks..They are probaly paying the Sheriff's 20 to 40 dollars an hour...but I have never heard of them helping a family in need in the community..ever...Why don't they just rent the RBC center for church instead of bldg. that over priced cathedral to make them feel better...What's with that HUGE cross..how many thosands of dollars did that cost ??? Could have upgraded a needy families house for what that cross cost...just my opinion..I put my faith in God ,. not churches
