On 12/05/07 there was an article in the Cleveland Post that warned of the dangers of using ASPARTAME (Equal, NutraSweet, etc.). This article is almost a word for word repetition of an internet HOAX that has been circulating since 1998. It has been debunked by reputable authorities over and over. The author's explanation for why aspartame has not been removed from the market is that there is a conspiracy between the "manufacturer, American Diabetes Association, American Dietetic Association Congress and the Conference of the American College of Physicians". One could suggest the same type of collusion between a newspaper and an advertiser, if such a HOAX is not addressed when brought to the editor's attention. I suggest you get more facts about these claims by review of the "other" side of the story: http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blasp.htm http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/aspartame.asp
I have to be honest. I stopped reading the Post when they got rid of all their columnists and their editor.
Yep, me too. But thanks to the OP for bringing it to the attention of anyone on the board who might still be reading the Post.
Thanks for the info, Skeptic. The article with the info debunked by Snopes was "written" by a local chiroprator. Although we don't give our kids artificial sweeteners (only whole foods like fruit roll ups! LOL), it is good to be informed. Welcome to the board, Skeptic.
I stopped reading the Post when they stopped delivering it to me. I miss it too, it worked wonders on glass. I did read your columns JS.
I swear Server, you are one FUNNY MUTHA! I have laughed and laughed at this one statement for an hour..... FREAKIN HYSTERICAL Rock on Man
it hit me just right...I love it when that happens. that OP went into all the specific mumbo jumbo and then SS comes back with that one question, it hit me, what can I say?:mrgreen: I am a nerd like that.
And I started reading it, I enjoy reading Tidbits by Joe Lee, about time they got someone that can hold your attention
"Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities or esoteric knowledge rather than engaging in more social activities, such as organized sports. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers." I only wish I passionalely pursued intellectual activities. I am a retired physician who played high school football on a team from Miami that flew to play teams in Chattanooga, TN and Macon, GA in the 1950's. I played softball into my 50's and tennis into my late 60's. I have been a senior excuetive of every organization and hospital staff to which I have belonged. My purpose in posting was to try to tell the local community that they are being "fed" false information and some times dangerous misinformation under the guise of scientic knowledge. If I reached one person who will be helped to understand this, I will be happy to receive all the insults you wish to heap on me. Better a Nerd than it's rhyming Noun!
