Clayton Neighborhoods-excited for my move!

We found the Wynston Subdivision and love the prices and the location. Very centrally located for everything....

 

Since you are planning to work for Jo. Co. Schools, you might want to hold off on the house purchase until you are hired to work at a school. This is a large county, and you don't want to be locked into a house in one area and work on the other side of the county, especially with gas prices being so high!

On that note, there is a new elementary school opening in Clayton off Vinson Road in August. However, there will be no hiring done until the principal is hired. Then transfer requests will be considered prior to any new hires. (The school board approves all hires, but the principals get to make the recommendations as to whom they wish to have working at the school.) I already know 2 people planning on applying for the counselor positions at that school as transfers. If one of them (or both) are hired, there will be openings in Smithfield and in the Cleveland (4042) areas.

Matthews Farm, in the 4042 area, is building phase 3 now. The homes here are on large lots and the 2-story are all around 2100-2400 sq. feet for under 200,000.

We did discuss waiting until after I was hired, but we've decided to go ahead and purchase now. It's a little scary, but I suppose I'm confident! Thanks for putting the location of the new elementary school. I'm interested to see what positions open up this summer!

 

Where are The Gardens? Never heard of it.

A southern welcome....

welcome to Clayton....I live in the Brookhill Estates subdivision...I LOVE it.
I am close to everything I need, but yet it is so quite here. The only thing I don't like about it, is that my son would be going to Cooper Elementary, and I am not happy with their testing scores...and other issues. I hope to work for Johnston County school system and choose his school....
so....welcome to NC either way....

Gotta question for you though...Do you like Sweet Tea? And do you know what Grits are?

I wouldn't want to live in Waverly Pointe under the high tees. Nice neigborhood but too much microwave energy under the high tees.

 

I agree with the person who said to wait until you have a teaching job. We LOVED the Riverwood/GlenLaurel area of Clayton when we first investigated the area and swore we'd buy a house there.....but when I got a teaching job in extreme southern Johnston County we realized my commute would be about 40 minutes with morning traffic.....so we are now buying a house in southern Clayton closer to my job and within 15 minutes to my job on back country roads.

Johnston County is HUGE.....and the schools are very spread out.

Not sure if you have small children or not, but make sure you look at what school districts the subdivions are. We had friends taht moved out that way and did not like the schools. Stick with E. Clayton, Riverwood or RiverDell for elemantary schools as they are all really good.
