Guardian Angel, Good Will ... On occassion I've seen some beautiful dresses in the thrift stores. Folks spend a ton of money on these things, wear them once and then after collecting dust in the closet for a while ... they toss them. I've seen dresses out on ebay also ... but you wouldn't get to try the dress on before buying.
My prom dress is still hanging in the closet at my parents' house. Hmmm, that prom was 24 years (and more pounds than I'm going to admit) ago, think I should let it go? To answer the question, I'd check places like 4042.com classifieds and Craigslist first. Try posting a wanted ad with the size and color you're looking for... you never know, and it's free to do!
I would also say thrift stores, but....if you have a picky teen who wants something new....you might want to call David's Bridal in Raleigh. They have a $99 sale every so often, which is usually bridesmaid dresses that are no longer available, etc.
I saw some place advertised on TV where all prom dresses were under $99. Some dept stores (like JcPenney) have numerous sales, look there and dig through the clearance racks as well.
If you don't mind a little drive.... This place has nice dresses and lots of sizes www.formalwearoutlet.com. All the dresses are $90.00 but they are just off of I 40 in Hillsborough.
Check out the "Back Porch" in Fuquay in the old Varina downtown area. They have designer clothes at beggers prices.
I'd say Debs too, they have really good prices. It's where I got mine 14 years ago, and I still go there ocassionally to get dresses for special evenings. Penney's prices aren't that bad sometimes, but I don't think they have a great variety.
what sizes are you needing?...we might have 2 to pick from...both are beautiful full length formal...my daughter wore one to prom and one to the military ball...
Here's a good place to go if you don't mind going to Hillsborough: http://formalwearoutlet.com/ They have new prom dresses for $90. The tux for men is $99 and that includes everything from the shoes on up to the bowtie and everything in between. When my daughter got married last year all the groomsmen bought Tommy Hilfiger tuxedos for $99 each.
There is a consignment shop in Garner on hwy 50 called Thrifty Threads and they sell second-hand gowns (prom and wedding, among other dresses). Here is their info: Thrifty Threads 919-662-9590 1140 Benson Rd
Another suggestion. When my daughter needed one last year we called everyone we knew who had a daughter(s) that was around my daughter's size. People were so nice. We drove around and picked them up and put names on the coat hangers. She tried on about thirty and found one that she really liked but the straps were not short enough. Called the mother and she said that my daughter could have the dress and so we got the straps fixed and she had her dress. We returned the other dresses but some told us to keep them. Ask around and maybe you will luck out. What size is she? If it is for her senior prom I would get her a new one. Other than that borrow, if possible. Grace
thanks for all the suggestions. i will check these places out. I'm guessing she wears a size 10 or 12. she's like me. she has to try on everything b/c nothing fits the same way!
