Hello everyone...I think I am looking more for support than anything. Do any of you have children that suffer from these fever induced seizures? My son (3 1/2) had his second one last Thursday...we did the whole abulance/ER trip just to be safe...and ultimately I know they don't hurt him and that he will grow out of them...but if you have ever seen a child have a seizure, then you know why my heart just breaks.

I was curious to see how many of us are dealing with this...

    Thanks!

My daughter had one when she was a little over 1. It was very scary! We did the whole ER thing too and the only thing they did was to give her a tyelnol suppository and check her bloodwork and urine for infection. She is now 2 1/2 and hasn't had one since.

Bless your hearts! It's very scary for sure. DS had one when he was about 3. I completely freaked out, but it wasn't a bad one and didn't take him to the doc once I realized what it was. Never had one since, thankfully. Good luck!

Jellybean - first of all, I'm sorry to hear about that. As a mom of 3, I couldn't imagine having to see my child go through that. I also wanted to let you know that a couple months ago someone started a thread about this same topic, so if you do a search you can see you're definitely not alone in this!

When I was 4 I had my first seizure, in a store with my parents. I actually remember it, that was the only time I have ever been in an ambulance. I had them throughout my childhood, and in many different places. School, stores, my bathroom, outside, in a hospital visiting someone else, on the playground. I actually remember them very well too. Aside from actually falling and bumping my head on different things, I don't remember them "hurting". I was on medication until I was 14, but as I grew older the dosage would have to be altered, and in the 5th grade I went through a hard time, when they couldn't find the right dosage, and for a while I was falling asleep in class, at anytime during the day. But they got it right, and now I'm a healthy adult with no problems!

My daughter is a teen and has many medical problems, which started not long ago. Carolina Neurology in Raleigh is wonderful. Her doctor is Dr. Rawal. She missed a day of school last week because they had a brain monitor on her to see if she is getting seizures.

    Hope all goes well.

I agree w/ Graceslick. Raleigh Neurology is the place to be for neurological disorders such as seizures. I go there and 4 of my kids go to the pediatric department. We see Dr. Kristi Milowic. They have different docs for different specialities. Best wishes. I know how hard it is to see a child go through something rough. I wish you all the best.

Another vote for Raleigh Neurology - my son goes there for his migraines.

It certainly never hurts to get a second opinion and everything checked out for the little one. Febrile seizures are easily managed by lowering the high fever with children's tylenol and motrin. Keep the fever down and the seizures away. These seizures are actually more common than you'd think. One of mine had them, just always made sure that when in any doubt of a fever she was given children's tylenol alternating every two hours with children's motrin until the fever broke, than just monitored her temperature really closely.

Thank you all so much. Not that I like hearing that others are suffering...but to know we are not alone and the anguish and helplessness I feel is totally normal. Thank you for your recommendations too (and sorry for not searching the threads first :) )

Hi jellybean. I am so sorry to hear of your scary experience. My DS was about 1 1/2, I had just dropped him at his grandparents to stay the night. I went shopping, and got a phone call that the ambulance was on the way and they would be taking him to the hospital. He had stopped breathing, and his grandfather had started CPR, because they weren't sure what was going on. After an exhausting trip to the ER, they said it was the febrile seizures. He is 6 now and never had another one. The doctor did tell me that it was likely he would have another one. He said that we didn't have to take him to the ER, but that if it was his child, he would be so scared, he would call the ambulance every time. So, I felt better. He wasn't concerned about it affecting him, but that it would be scary for us.

Don't worry about searching the Threads. First and foremost it is always good to know that you are not alone. Yes, we don't wish ill on anyone else but we do need to hear from others. So, in saying that please keep us informed.
