Got an Acer Aspire 5570Z laptop here. Eh, it works pretty good with the exception of Vista. Anyways, I ran defrag yesterday and dl'd Windows Updates and restarted last night - and this morning the screen is dim. No settings have been changed, not much I can do to fix it. I messed with the brightness and contrast and wound up restoring the defaults so I would not go blind. A quick google did not yield too much information. We do have a warranty, the laptop and warranty were purchased from the Evil Empire (Walmart). So, is this some setting or something I can reset or does it need to go to the shop? It's about 6 months old. And how much of a PIA is it dealing with Walmart on warranties?
Check the "belly button" for lint. No, really!!!:lol: There is a lid latch switch down in the hole where the lid latch locks when you close the lid. It turns the monitor off or adjusts the brightness when the lid is closed or hibernating. I call it the belly button because they gather lint.:lol: That model has 2 latches so check both holes. I'm not sure which one has the switch in it. Suck those holes with a vacumn. Then take a toothpick and bounce the switch in the hole a few times ...GENTLY!! See if the brightness comes back.
No, you know what it wound up being? For some reason, the settings were reset? I had to use FN/right arrow key and the screen lit right up. I don't know why.
