I found this nbc17 story of little value. It's great the 70 by-pass is ahead of schedule. However, it would have been of more value for them to share a tenative date for it to open :?
When the bridge on 42 was completed, I remember reading and hearing that they were a year ahead of schedule. The whole 70-bypass project was supposed to take 3 years to complete. Hopefully, they'll take the whole 3 years to make sure that there are no construction errors.
Just heard on NBC-17 there is more than a year left but just a few fine details to finish up. Still didn't give an opening date. Maybe it will be opening soon.

:iagree: I heard by August 2008. Since we haven't had much rain and warm temps they are way ahead of schdule! And they've raised the speed limit to 65 thru the zone :hurray:.
Hopefully they didn't use the same contractors that they used to re do I-40 through Durham or US 117 in Goldsboro. Otherwise all the road surfaces will need to be redone with in the next year
Update! According to this, it's going to open in July! http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/local&id=6028318
Work Zone I see that the speed limit has been raised and lowered to different mph in the past several weeks. I have also noticed that law enforcement has patrolled the area frequently in the past several weeks. I am all about travelling a safe speed in a work zone, but where was the law enforcement when the 'construction workers' were out there working and in danger from the dare devil drivers!!! I am stepping off my soap box now, and no I do not speed through work zones, just thought it was interesting!!
They pay more money than what I earn but I don't think they want trolls that look like me on TV. I would scare to many viewers away. But I can't wait for it to open. Now if they finish I-540 on the east side. Build an exit ramp off of I-40 onto Cornwallis, and make exit 312 a SPUI things would start to shapen up.
Whether it's SPUI or cloverleaf, or whatever else they weant to build, I just wish they's post signs way before I get to the on-ramp so that I know whether I should be in the right lane or the left lane.
