Actually Hught's link did back up the claim (more or less)... I'm not going to quibble of one or two percentage points.
As soon as I fabricate them... just kidding! I have contact one of the sources of my info and I'm waiting for them to tell me when they found the information. As soon as I get the info I will pass it on. Pastor G
You did, as indicated in his post 40% is probably more accurate, but the press consistently uses 50%, so Pastor G using the 50% figure is probably not that big a deal. I am more interested to hear his comments as to why the Atheist and Agnostic rates are so low.
One of the sights I was reading stated the reason some rates seem higher for Christians is because like in any case some claim to be "Christians or born again" and really are not. But just one sight I read, could be alot of other reasons as well..
But why would the average "Christian" rate whether born only once or many times be higher than those of us born only once?
Hught, as far as the divorce rates for Atheists and Agnostics... I have no idea. I'll be the first to admit I don't know everything. Maybe Christians should take a closer look at what these groups are doing right in their marriages. Christians don't have a corner on good mariages... that's kinda obvious. Pastor G
I dont know, I'm not divorced Maybe the expectation of having a "christian marriage" is too much, maybe two religions marring.. too many factors to count!
Never did it myself either! Will be 25 Years in July, if you haven't reached that milestone yourself yet, I hope you go beyond that!
haha I'm only on number 6, but cant wait til I get into my golden years with my hubby!! Congrats on the 25 years!
Been married for 15 years. Secrets for men... say, "yes dear, you're right and I'm wrong a lot. And keep your head down and stay under the radar." LOL Pastor G
Definitely like a man of the cloth with a sense of humour. You just earned three and a half respect points. As far as born-again Christian divorces, I'd like to (but I doubt if they exist) see the numbers on those where one spouse is born again and the other is not. It might well be that the mismatch might be the bone of contention that caused the divorce.
That's a great point Clif. Something else I've always wondered when I read those stats, how many were divorced before they became a Christian? They may well have been an Atheist or Agnostic when they divorced, yet haven't been divorced since becoming a Christian.
(CNSNews.com) - Born-again Christians are just as likely to get divorced as anybody else in American society, and the vast majority of those identifying themselves as divorced and born-again actually got their divorces after converting to Christianity, according to a new book called The Divorce Reality. http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=/Culture/archive/200201/CUL20020121b.html
Then that would go back to Clif's question....was the partner born again also, or did just one convert??? Plus, how many identified themselves as Christians, yet haven't been to church since they were a child? Lots of variables....think there are really more atheists and agnostics in the world, but people are hesitant to admit that because of societal pressures.
way to many variables to think of, one being saved one not, one being baptist one being mormon. Even consider this, many people believe being gay is wrong so some marry to hide the real person. Then realize they cant live the double life and get married. Also do a search and I believe it was 38% of people married are actually happy being married. Thats alot of unhappy people. Other articles mention that the lowest divorce rates are in the North where you have more Catholics who have stricter guidelines before you get married, maybe everyone should go thru the classes and counseling before they get married. Also you have more people living together and not getting married I think the number of marriages have also gone down. So many unanswered questions..
Please allow me to correct a misunderstanding. C6 is a tenured teacher in JoCo schools, and has taught public school for over 20 yrs. (Yes, folks, she stated when she was 9...lol) I am merely a certified substitute teacher, and have chosen to teach at the MS and HS levels. I spend more time teaching at WJHS than others and appreciate the fact that I am often requested, by name, to teach. I cover all academic areas. That said, nothing I said in the earlier post was intended to be dismissive or insulting to the pastor. I merely pointed out what I considered to be fallacies in his argument, one which he still hasn't factually supported, after numerous requests. And the way that others have taken to his defense claiming that he's being attacked for saying what obviously must be true, are as wrong as those who claim that asking Obama anything is racist. Truth changes according to the perception of the person telling it and the person hearing it. Facts do not change. We're still waiting for the data and facts.
