There is a local cleaner that has been around for quite a while and has been discussed here before. I wanted to let you all know what happened to me to help prevent it from happening to others! I took a two piece dressy, church dress (paid $20) for it to be steamed/pressed...whatever to knock out the wrinkles. I am so not good with an iron! I was thinking around $7...$10 max since it was brand new and only needed pressing. DH dropped it off for me. In their defense, I should have had him ask the price first! It cost me $17.08 TO STEAM this dress! I questioned her to be sure it was not cleaned and only pressed. Yep..just pressed. At that point, it was either leave my dress and refuse to pay it or just pay it. Everyone I have talked to has been in absolute shock over the price. What do you think???
that's expensive - go to the new cleaners on cleveland road past cornwalis on th way to CVS. THey are pretty good and fairly priced. Kiddo's ROTC uniform only 7 bucks and change. Alterations a bit high but worth it.
My dad is a drycleaner in PA, so I understand why they have to charge high prices, BUT, that is very expensive. He's always told me it's just as cheap to clean a piece as it is to just press it. Anyhow, I just picked up clothes from Mike's Cleaners, the one behind CVS and the Landmark. I got 2 pairs of pants and 2 sweaters cleaned for $16. I didn't think that was TOO bad. I've paid worse. Much better than $17 to press a dress!
Most people don't realize it but the Dry Cleaners are one of the highest generators of Hazardous Waste that the average individual deals with on a regular basis. In all fairness that stuff is not cheap to deal with.
I never use a dry cleaner. Well, I don't, DH has a suit cleaned now and then. If it says "dry clean only" I don't buy it. I've even had some success washing some things by hand that said that.
I've always gotten excellent service and results using Mike's. Good people to us. Fair prices. And, I can count on them in a pinch.
i took a dress to the cleaners behind CVS..can't remember the name, its by the ladies fitness center and the car wash on the road that cuts behind 42. They charged $40 to clean and press the dress. Couldn't believe it! I will never go there again I recently used the new cleaners on 1010 by tag auto..they did a terrific job.
I understand they use hazardous materials but I didn't think any of that was involved in steaming a dress.
I've either hand washed or used the at home dry cleaner stuff you find in the laundry aisle. But like you, I try not to buy it if I don't have to.
