I'm looking for a nice set of bunk beds for my 2 boys. Everyone I lfound online had them for about $600 +, and I found some on Ebay for $229, they look very nice. I'm just worried about how sturdy they'll be? I have some at the cabin I bought at that price and they seem pretty sturdy, but they're not used every day either. Anyone have any input on this? Or know a good place nearby that won't break the bank? I would even consider used, but only slightly...and it needs to be dark wood, like cherry. I have not been to badcock or ashley yet, how are their prices?
Don't have any suggestions as to where to buy them - but I do know that it is a royal pain to change the sheets on them!! :?
I got DS's bunk beds at Sam's Club. They are solid oak, not sure what they have now, but might be worth a look on their website. Much better quality than what I could get for the same price at a furniture store. PS: I took the suckers down and am storing the extra one. Bonked my head one too many times making them up. Think twice about a bunk bed, they are a PITB. :? I see Bandmom beat me to that last statement!
Yeah, you're both right about changing the sheets...I hate having to do that at the cabin, but fortunately we're not there that much, and no one uses the top one...The reason I'm getting one is because all 3 of my kids want to share a room, and there isn't a bedroom big enough for 3 beds! My little one is in a toddler bed, and will be for a while, so they don't take up much room. So if I could get a bunk bed, that can transform into 2 twin beds later (do they all do that?) then that would work good for my needs. I haven't checked Sam's club, but I know I've seen them at BJ's before, but none there recently. I will check out their website though, thanks!
I have to say, we have the ones from BJ's which seemed pretty sturdy when we bought them but...with boys they have not held up as well as I would like. And I think there's not as much room between the bottom and top bunk as some others I have seen so we're not even using them stacked even though I'd love to have that room in there. So I would look for some that are a little higher with better quality.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24895552/ Just went to MSNBC, and this was on their front page regarding bunk bed injuries. Quite coincidental that you posted your question today!
They definitely do NOT all transform into twin beds. Make sure to ask before you buy. After looking a while, you can tell which do and which don't. If the ladder is built into the beds, for example, they won't transform. There is also a huge difference on the sturdiness of bunk beds. I have 2 girls that are generally easier on furniture than a lot of kids. After seeing them on their bunk beds, I am so glad we went with the sturdier kind, not the $200 or so Walmart kind. We landed up getting a good deal on a used set. We originally wanted the kind that would transform to twins, but we got such a good deal that we couldn't pass it up.
Those do separate and they are solid wood. They also make trundle drawers that go the whole length of the full beds. I emailed them on Christmas when I happened to find the site and they wrote back later that night, which I found impressive and a great contrast to most people in sales these days. We want to buy from them eventually(they are expensive but I think they would be worth it).
