So - how do YOU cook fresh green beans? I'd like some suggestions for different ways to cook them. Looking mostly for 'light' yet tasty recipes. Thanks!!
first you snap em in thirds then you boil them long enough for you to fry several pieces of bacon or fatback in a black frying pan then you drain them, and dump them into the frying pan right on top of the meat cook the snot out of them they're done when they darken up some from being scorched by the pan and they start to turn mushy when you stir them
I like to steam them crisp-tender, then saute cook them with minced garlic (lots of) and a squeeze of lemon. Very good with summer fare.
I get a pot hot and add some EVOO and lots of fresh garlic. I drop in clean GB's and saute for a minute then add about 3/4 chicken broth....cook until desired tenderness...yum!
I clean and snap the ends off. Then place them in a frying pan on the stove top. I coat the pan with Fat free Olive Oil spray and put the beans in on about med-high. Coat the beans well with the olive oil spray. I add about 2 tbs. of garlic (the minced jar kind) as well. cover and let steam/sautee'. I do this for about 30-40 minutes, repeating the olive oil spray as needed. Turning beans occasionally. Cook to desired textured. Once I get them to the desired texture, I turn the heat on high, let the pan get hot and add a couple of splashes of balsalmic vinagerette. It'll kinda sear/blacken the beans. Cut the heat off, add a couple of squeezes of lemon....YUM. and Fat free. My favorite way to eat green beans. I use the store brand Fat free Olive Oil spray (on the PAM aisle).
We wash the green beans and snap them into 1/3, picking the top and bottom of the beans off. We put them into a large pot filled with chicken broth and washed new potatoes (two for one). Boil until the potatoes are soft enough and the beans will be ready. Eat with fried chicken, pork chops or some great meat that you can make gravy out of. Potatoes, gravy, green beans and meat. Fix a fresh salad and stick in some rolls...a great meal for all. Sherry
