As we all know, Gas prices SUCK! but they are here to stay IMO. My truck gets a whopping 10-12mpg and I have to run premium (f-150 Lightning)...Anyway, to my main point.

There has been an influx in motorcycles and scooters in this area as well as the rest of the country. I recent bought a motorcycle and use it to commute. In 1 month, I saved $245 in gas alone. The bike will pay for itself in less than 9 months.

I ask, on behalf of all motorcycle riders, that everyone pay extra attention when pulling out at intersections, etc. The #1 cause of motorcycle accidents is that the car "didn't see them". I do my best to make myself visible and try to predict if cars see me or not. always anticipate that they don't...and it has saved me.

for all of the motorcycle/scooter riders out there...Please pay the $110 and take the MSF course. Also always wear protective clothing! I hit a deer last year on my old bike going 65mph...totalled the bike, but I walked away with a mild headache.

Also Ride with your high-beams on during daylight hrs...it DOES increase you visibility!

For everyone else...Thank you for listening and I hope everyone can help keep people like me safe by paying a little extra attention while driving.

    thanks!

Great post...................I can't help but notice an increased number of motorcyclist on the road. And I've noticed some of them are obviously in-experienced. I've seen a couple near accidents due to the motorcyclist in the past couple weeks. Now before anyone thinks I am anti-motorcycle............DH has one, has had all kinds of them and has ridden for at least 15 years. Thank God he drives defensively, because there sure are a lot of clueless people out there. :?

:iagree: I worry too about all these new riders. My DH rides and lots of his friends are now considering buying one - we keep telling them to take the safety course first - and be ready to drive defensively!!! :?

I am glad to see a positive reply to this topic. I was worried it came out a little harsh.

Anyway, Thanks for looking out for us...I have been riding for 10 yrs or more, and have been defensive ever since my first bike...hell, today I almost got ran off the road by some chump on a cel phone.

anyway, Drive safe out there and if you are new to riding...DO NOT get a crotch-rocket as your first bike...get something that has more predictable power, and is heavier. (heavy = less fighting the wind).

Ok, enough lectures... Maybe we can get a 40/42 ride for safety rally or something going?

I have been riding for over 30 years and had my share of id10t's.
I now own an older bike that I would love to ride, But it needs some carb work done. I don't have my tools any more so I cant fix it my self.
I came up here with only my clothes and my scoot. Realy dont have any cash on hand to take it to a shop. So all I can do is look at it and cry.
I have a 1982 Suzuki 850. If any one has extra parts out there in wonderland , That they realy don't need I could use them.
Or if any one likes to tinker with Bikes, I could use some new friends.
I don't know any one here except for my Sister and my new Girlfriend.
I would like to have some other people to ride with once old bertha gets back in shape. I ecept e-mails at waltthau@yahoo.com
If any one is interested in my delema.
    Thanks in advance.

I really liked this thread, I don't ride..never will. But, I have known many many riders. I have always been one of the few that really pay attention to them. But, why do some of them got to sit on my bumper when we are at a light? Why do they have to drive right up to the light in between two cars and pull off really fast when it turns green? There have been several lately that really are not riding safe and that bothers me. Here I am trying to keep them in my sight so I don't run them over, and they are driving all crazy!

I haven't ridden in many years and I miss it greatly. I want another bike! I've had my share of scares both on bikes and in cars. I try to keep an eye out for bikers, but there are people out there that can't even see my fullsized truck let alone a bike. Y'all be safe out there and enjoy the ride.

Wow, I'm impressed. I havent liked the look of any Zuki sportbie since the early Katana...........[IMG]

But even I must admit that's a nice lookin bike Kodiac. I might have to give Suzuki another chance. Altho my heart pretty much belongs to the new V-max...

I posted this on my forum that I run...Maybe someone here can get some use out of it...its my review of the bike after 150 miles and 3 gallons of gas :)

For what I paid, I cannot complain one bit about this bike. I use it as a daily commuter and all I can say is "got torque?" This has got to be the torquiest (sp) inline-4 600 bike I have ever driven. Ergo's are GREAT. at 6'4", ergo's mean a lot. I am still in the break in period, but did rev the snot out of it once trying to keep up with a buddy on a busa. The power just keeps pulling...Probably the flattest powerband I have ever felt.

I'll keep it short and just add a list of pro's & cons with a few comparisons.

    FZ6 vs. GSX:

GSX has MUCH better, usable torque...great for around town and commuting. (what it was built for) FZ6 has top end hands down...

GSX has better ergos, and better weather protection.

GSX is VIBE FREE!!!! Handle bars, seat, pegs...can't feel the slightest vibe throughout the rev range...even at highway/cruising speeds...it is rock solid.

FZ6 felt buzzy to me at certain RPMs.

The GSX has effortless handling and is butter smooth everywhere.

    GSX vs. ninja 650:

Didn't ride the ninja, but did sit on one...ergo's is what detered me from that...so if you are tall, try out the Suzuki.

    CONCLUSION:

I bought this bike as a commuter, NOT a race bike. For what it is, it is by far the smoothest (in all aspects) bike I have ever ridden. predictable handling, predictable power, and predictable braking. The bike LOVES to lean low into corners and feels right at home doing so. Transmission is nice and smooth and you get the GSX-R dash to go along with it.

As fas as a beginners bike...I would say it'd be an "ok" choice. TQ comes on strong down low, and if you aren't familiar with bikes...this may lead you into trouble. but if you can control your wrist, you'd be good to go.

So, if you like riding in comfort with some pep...This is the bike for you. If you want an all out track bike...look elsewhere.
