As an adult, Tax Payer, and parent of a elementary student I am quite embarrassed for the teachers at my child's school. In my eyes a teacher is someone who a child should lookup to, learn from and should influence a child in being be a good person. Next to a parent the teacher is probably the only other adult that you child spends the most time with. During this time believe it or not the child picks up habits, characteristics, and phrases of this individual. Just like when your child plays with friends some of their characteristics rub off. Outside of school I noticed that my child has developed an stand offish (stuck up) attitude, as well as being very loud and obnoxious behavior . Not only has this drawn my attention but the attention of neighbors and teachers at school. After having a sit down with my child's teacher I noticed where this attitude had come from. I was amazed. A few weeks later at an event at the Alltel Pavilion I heard loud out of control rude racist remarks. Looking around I noticed that this was coming from my child's teacher. (the person who I have meant with a few weeks prior). I watched this person talking to a few people (who I thought might be friends) after her friends walked away I was surprised to hear what she was saying about them. It was almost like watching Middle School girls taking cheap shots at each other. WOW!! (what a back stabber) Not only would I not want my child to be friends with a person like this, I would not want a person like this to teach my child. I am glad that my child is no longer a student of hers. I was quite embarrassed for this individual. I feel as though teachers help influence todays youth. The children of today will be the adults of tomorrow. It does not give me the warm and fuzzy feeling inside that these type of people are teaching our kids. I think that we are in deep trouble if our teachers are behaving like this, may I say that I was quite disgusted seeing an intoxicated teacher being rude, spewing out racial epithets and acting like a child. A proud parent of a future 4th grader.
My son had a (female) teacher in 7th grade that was a perfect example of someone that shouldn't be teaching our youth. My son came home and told me about a situation that happened in computer class. A kid was looking at porn through a proxy site and when this teacher walked by him and saw it she said, "I don't mind you looking at porn, but just don't do it near the door where others can see it." This teacher teaches English by day and bartends at night. My son had told me about a number of occasions where she had cursed in front of the class and allows the kids to do the same. My wife and I sat down with the Vice Principal and voiced our concerns and she stated that she would take care of it. Never got a follow up from the Vice Principal and my son told me that the same activities and profanity continued. I was glad to see my son leave that school. No bash on good upstanding teachers, but it seems like the moral quality of teachers is getting worse and worse. I guess it should be no surprise considering the moral decline of our society. More power to those teachers out there that are trying to make a difference in children's lives and pass on good moral character. Pastor G =)
You are both a much better person than I am. I wouldn't have started with the Vice Principal I would have gone to the principal and explained to him/her that if I did not see anything happening in a couple of days that I would go to the school board. I guess I am thankful that all any of my kids teachers did was let my youngest child sleep through half of 6th grade.
How times have changed!! I'm a retired banker. I remember what the bank CEO told me when he hired me! He said 'We really do not want our clients to see our bank emplyees working as a bartender or a job of that nature. Just not the image we want our employees to portray.' Of course that was back in the 70's. Anything goes in todays society. Times change but morals should not. It's not about having pride about your career any more. JMO!! Pat
hold on here.... teaching is a job. like any other state employee. You get paid for your behavior for eight hours an day - then you are free to do whatever. I was in customer service for many many years.I treated those folks with the utmost repsect and politeness. When I left - I went home and said or did whatever I felt like it. It was by no means a reflection of my job or my company. I live by my own morals and by todays standards I am a buit on the quiet side. And as far as swearing in class - I do not condone it but if something "lite" slips out it should not be the end of the world as long as it is not an everyday or every other paragraph occurance. You kids will hear swear words. It is your job to teach the right from wrong. They will do with that lesson what they wish. But I've got a few bucks that says there isn't a 7th grader out there that doesn't curse on occasion. And if you believe yours doesn't - then you are just kidding yourself. i don't think the kid should belooking at porn during class hours - they will explore enough n their own. Th eteacher may have been trying to get the image of being the cool teachers. WE all should recall that those were the teachers who made the greatest impact in our lives. The means or staunch ones we have long forgotten. Then ones that we could approach about anything are those that helped the most. Academically and otherwise.
Last I heard, it was a free country. As long as she is behaving herself IN class or where there are children around, then it's really none of my business AS LONG AS she's doing a good job IN the class. Sounds to me as though she was in some sort of adult venue and you just happened to be there. Your issues with your daughters attitude and where that comes from is a whole separate issue than whatever you heard her say at Alltel pavillion. I am in NO WAY condoning such behavior, but it doesn't have anything to do with whether or not she's a teacher.
If I would had to wager a guess, I would be more inclined to believe that your child's sudden change in attitude has more to do with middle school and other catty middle school girls than one teacher.
I am what I am...I don't put on airs at work, at home, at church, at the grocery store, at the bar, etc. Only exception... I don't cuss in church or at least I try not to; but the kids have sure tested me! As for this teacher, letting a kid look at porn, eehh... I have a very hard time believe that the school does NOT have locks and firewalls to prevent the viewing of any porn. I call BS.
i don't consider it "puttin on airs", it is just a different atmosphere at work and demands professionalism. Now you know me, when i am off work, ain't nothing professional about it:lol:
Well dern... I didn't mean it to come out like that! I just mean I don't act differently just b/c of the people I'm around. Well I take that back...Hubby says I can be the devil sometimes so...
:iagree: You paid for 8, then you are on your own. I know at the High School there is a porn filter so I really have my doubts porn was being looked at in middle school.
