=( the quote from my George Carlin calendar today is: "Considering how often these child-trapped-in-a-car stories have been reported on TV, don't you think by now parents should have gotten the idea? Actually, isn't that one of the more fundamental rules of child rearing? "Don't bake your children!" And now, the 7 dirty words you can't say on TV, Radio, or 4042: ****, ****, ****, ****, **********, ************, and ****. actually 5, half of 6, and 7 weren't blocked. but i censored them anyway just to keep the appearance.
RIP I've got several of his books which I always enjoyed. His last couple of HBO specials were sorta sad as it was obvious that he was a shadow of what he once was. At least now we can just remember the good years.
Brain Droppings? When I heard about him this morning I started reading it again. Laughter never gets old. He was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. Sherry
Don't ya' think God has a sense of humor? If a person believes in God for sure they believe that laughter and humor were and are a part of the plan. George just makes a person look at everything in a different way. Listening to your link as I type. Is he not correct on religion taking in alot of money? Look at Jim and Tammy Faye. He does question why God allows war, disease, famine, etc. But who does not at times. Get a sense of humor. Ya' know I love ya'...laughter is wonderful. Sherry
Yes, there is definitely truth in his humor. That's why its funny. But at the end he states that there is no god and there never was. I just never liked him because he was too cynical for me. Some of the stand-up routines were great, but based on his interviews I think he truly believed the world was a sick joke and there was no hope for humanity. That crosses the line for me, and makes him go from being a funny person to being sad and depressing. I could never stand to be around someone who was that consistently negative about everything.
In my opinion I think George took negative thoughts and made laughter out of them so people would lighten up. Just something to think about. Saw him many times and always left with a sore belly. Sherry
Couldn't believe it when i heard this morning. God Bless You George Carlin!!!! My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. I feel blessed to have actually seen you in concert and will remember you for your unique style of humor. RIP!!!!
The alternative would be assuming the universe just appeared from nothing. I don't think that's anything to brag about either.
And Westboro Baptist Church provides their send down of George. I am sure he would have liked to work them into his act. http://www.westborobaptistchurch.com/written/fliers/20080624_carlin-in-hell.pdf
