No, we could not have wheels at East Clayton Elementary, Riverwood Middle or Clayton High. I was just stating that you can buy them with or without.

I do believe I have something around here that states they cannot have wheels. Will look if I get a chance.

Hit with them? I hope it was just a kid playing around and not out of anger.

My sister has an "online" business and she does out of her home too. I know she has girl backpacks but I can see what she has for boys too. The problem I run into is the sizes at most places! My daughter is tiny so some of these backpacks at the mall and so on are way too big for her! Here is her link if anyone wants to look at the backpack (or the big girls out there want to look at gifts and handbags!) LOL www.samuelcoledesigns.com

And no I am not trying to put out an advertisement for free, because she has had this business for over a year and this is the first time I mentioned it here incase someone tries to argue with me about listing it - she just has some cute girly backpacks and working on boy backpacks! ha ha ha!! :boxing::)

I want that for my daughter, and I like the beaded one (purse) a lot for me.... but I think the 6 pack purse may go well for summer days for lots of the women! I mean women can look super trendy with a 6 pack in hand (and it has a slot for the ice pack to keep it cool) LOL I bought one for a gift recently.

The mommy in me: I got my son the LL Bean Junior, which is a smaller version of the bigger one. It has held up well. It also has his name on it so it is easy to find.

The teacher in me: NO rolling bookbags. I ahve kids that bring them and theyare definitely not allowed to roll them at school. When I was at the mobiles at Cleveland Middle, they let them have the wheels outside and the biggest problem was others, including me, tripping over them or them turning over and the kids going with them. Also, they don't fit into the cubbies at school very well, they stick out and someone is always running into them. I try to teach the kids better organizational skills. You would not believe what some of those kids carry around with them that is totally not school related.

I'm all for a lifetime guarantee! My younger one went through a Transformer backpack from Target before the Holidays last year in K. His 2nd one was a regular $10 backpack from Target also, but he left a banana in the bottom so we lost that one due to him.

My 4th grader went through 2 as well. He just has so many books that they seem to tear and rip easily.

If it's the same Transformer BP I got for kiddo the hologram image on the front zipper was cracked and opened for stuff to fall out by the 2nd week of school.

I used an Eastpack all through school. They have (or at least had) a lifetime guarantee. I actually wore a hole in mine after carrying it for a couple years, sent it in and they sent me back a new one. I haven't priced backpacks in a very long time but at the time they were affordable for a durable backpack, and you can find them in stores, as opposed to LL Bean, which had to be ordered.

I STILL have the one I used in middle school, high school, and college. I take it to the beach with me and wherever else I go! I think wayyy back then I paid $25 for it! I have had the zipper replaced twice (they did it both times). GREAT product!

Any suggestions on a Messenger Bag. My daughter has decided that she would prefer one of these for 3rd grade. They look like they would not hold as much as a backpack.

My son is 6 but he is a giant! 75 lbs. and over 4 feet tall.
Do you think the LL Bean Jr. would be too small for him?
Seriously my kid looks like he's 8!

Also does anyone know of a good backpack that has the lunchbox that attaches to it?
And a thermos that actually keeps things hot for a long time?

    Thanks!

We go w/ back packs and NO wheels. We always get ours at Target when they are 75% off and stock up. My kids go through at least 2, if not three backpacks each per year. That's 14 backpacks at a minimum. And the middleschoolers are worse b/c they take every stupid book home. I never had that heavy a load even in high school. I'm weighing them this year--LOL.

My vote is stock up when they're 75% off. Only about 5 weeks or so after school has started. That and we've gotten a couple free ones online. BTW, I love the samueldesigns website someone sent. My daughter would go crazy over that polka dotted bookbag! That is really a neat site. Thanks for sharing. They'd make great gifts.

Still can't believe school is almost here again. Good luck shopping folks. BTW, big lots has great deals a lot of times too. Oh, and not too long ago, Walgreens did 2 back packs for just $10. NOt bad. I know there are other good backpacks out there but we just can't do the $30 to $40 per backpack. Last year, supplies ran $800 (just stuff on the list mind you). My mom helped w/ most but wont' be able to this year. Any ideas besides where I"ve said to go to get very dirt cheap supplies? Hey, btw, it helps to ask for stuff back at the end of the year that was not used. Some of mine got items back and we'll use them for this coming school year.

    Happy Shopping!

Stephanie, Walmart has got some deals right now - loose leaf paper, pencils, crayons, colored pencils, pens, spiral notebooks, folders, glue/gluesticks... I was going to start a confession thread, but I guess I could just post it here. I WENT TO WALMART TODAY!! Plus, I got The Princess Bride on DVD for 4 bucks! But back to supplies - alot of schools also have the Silent Partner program - you might check into that.

I had gotten some with wheels a few years back for my kids because their bookbags are so dang heavy, but they couldn't use the wheels at school. Heck most of my son's HS years, he carried all his books in his back because he never had time to go to his locker. I picked up his bookbag one day and thought I was going to fall over. Even my daughter's last year, I could not believe how heavy it was and this was her in the new freshmen building at the HS. Hate to see what it is going to feel line next year when she is in the main building.
