    Reading in the Smithfield Herald...

I am having a hard time picturing how the Wal-Mart area can connect to Cleveland School Rd. without crossing 40 or groing through neighborhoods that border Cornwalis.

I agree - how are they going to cross over I40?
+ Swift Creek is right beside there too.
    ???????????????

    Geez, people...read a map!

Yahoo maps clearly shows how this is possible without crossing I-40. I would imagine that the park would be due south of the WalMart where there is a good bit of undeveloped land and access to...Cleveland School Road.

It could stub out anywhere between Westview Elem. and Dance Art, but on the opposite side of the street. Hope the helps you picture where it would possibly go. It might follow the path of the power lines.

I had a few minutes to look at GIS. I do see where there is land that a road could run behing the Wal-Mart and south to Cleveland School Rd. (near where it crosses with I-40). I recall there was a time an I-40 exit @ Cleveland School was discussed. Was that option ruled out or is it still on the table?

  6. From my understanding. Where the school is now at one time the developer of the land wanted to put a shopping center there, but wanted ramps coming off of I-40 connecting to Cleveland school road for shopping. But DOT put the kibash on that because the ramps would be too close to the 312 exit. Usually its one exit per mile.

Yes, there was talk of that. However it was not for that interchange becuase that is too close to exit 312. There have also been plans/discussions an interchange at Cornwalis and I-40.

I always imagined that the light at Westview would be where the road would come out and that the house that is there would be sold to DOT to allow this?

Really, when are they going to build that road that leads to Lowe's and the new Walmart from the light at West View? Couldn't be soon enough.

I was under the impression that people live right across from Westview? And behind those houses is someone's farm land. Huh. Wonder what kinda bullying is going to go down there?

People do live there. I guess money talks! And if you don't give it to the DOT they take it anyway and you got nothing! But who wouldn't want some money to start off fresh, maybe they want to buy a bigger, newer house? You never Know ones reasons, but no one has to like it but them.
