Know a good place to buy unfinished furniture?

Discussion in 'Discussion Group' started by Former Buckeye, Jul 29, 2008.

  1. I was looking for someone/someplace that makes unfinished furniture to sell. I would like to fix up my daughters bedroom, and am wanting to find a dresser, nightstand, chair, shelves, etc to paint the colors that she wants. Does anyone know of any individual who makes these articles at reasonable prices? Thanks so much!!

There's always someone at the flea market. :)

I was looking a few months back for my son's room, and I had trouble finding children's furniture.

I "think" CJ Woodmaster is still in business, they had a store on Capital Blvd, one in Cary and another in Durham. Here is the Raleigh store info from the yellow pages:

    3131 Capital Boulevard 109, Raleigh, NC 27604
    Phone: (919) 876-7662

There is also an outlet store in Sanford (if you care to travel): http://www.sanfordunfinishedfurniture.com

I did find some contacts on craigslist for you that say they make custom furniture for cheap, maybe you can contact them directly:

    Good luck!

Unfortunately, CJ Woodmasters is out of business. They filed for bankruptcy a few months back.

There's a place called Woodworks going out of business in Greenville. They've had the sale going for about 1-1/2 weeks, so not sure what's left. I got a great deal on a birch desk and 4 barstools when I went in the first day of the sale.

They will still stain/paint for you if you'd like.

Unless he/she is dead-set on having it painted an unusual color, I think after you price it, plus the painting/staining cost and labor - you may find you'll be better off just buying an already finished set. How old is your child? They change their minds every year, so I'd think real hard before sinking too much into 'specially painted' furniture that they may grow tired of - unless of course, money is not a problem for you, then go for it......

There used to be a place over by 1010/401 intersection in the Food Lion plaza. That was years ago, don't know if it's still there. If it's not out of your way, you could drive by and check it out. I agree with Bandmom though, prices on that stuff always seemed high to me, considering there was still work to be done on it (staining or painting). I think you'd be better off just getting something already done...jmho...:)

I think that was a CJ Woodmaster, and it is no longer there.
