Have been investigating using LED lights for some home lighting applications. From what I can tell, they have none of the mercury issues of the CFL's, a much longer life span (about 5 times that of CFL's) and they are making them that will fit in standard fixtures. In addition, their heat output is extremely low which saves you on AC costs and they require very little electricty to run. Seems like the main downside is the fact that they aren't mainstream yet so the price per bulb is steep (as the CFL's were in the past). Has anybody else had any experience with LED lights in the home (table lamps, floods, ceiling fixtures)? Looking for real world experience rather than the sales pitch from the various companies that are selling them. Thanks! 8)

I know one down side to having them. (If they're the lights I'm thinking off)
You can't dim them. They are either on or off. We have a bunch of dimmers in our house and this didn't work for us. And something about can lights don't jive with these lights.

My brother has started using them about a year & half ago and said something about he could tell a wee bit in his electric bill each month. Couple bucks if I remember correctly. Couple of bucks add up over time. ;)

Thanks for the point on the dimmers. Hadn't thought of that! I think the CFL's are the same way...some have problems due to the fact that the ballast freaks out when the dimmer switch is turned down.

we have LED night lights in the house, but dh uses LED lights for his job and loves them. He will be getting these I am sure. They are cool to the touch and last forever.. No problems with them at all.

An issue for some is that they are not ambient, but are more directional. They have made some progress in difusing the light, but I would be hesitant to use them in anything other than recessed lighting, etc.

    Also, try these guys:
