On Short Journey Road, my son and I found a puppy walking down the center lines. He is very friendly, wearing a collar (no tags), and is very clean (no ticks/fleas/dirt). We stopped at houses up and down the road to see if anyone owned/recognized him, but to no avail.

He appears to be part Boxer and possibly part Lab. He has not been fixed yet, but also is probably only 13-16 weeks old. His tail was not docked. Please let me know if you know of anyone missing this sweet guy.

I have pics, but haven't figured out how to post them.

If we contact Animal Control, can we alert them we have the dog or would they automatically come pick him up? We don't want this sweet guy put down, but want the word out there as much as possible so he can get back home.

There might be a way to call them and let them know that you had found a puppy and you could give them your contact info. IF you absolutely could not keep him I'm sure he would be adopted quickly since the puppies seem to do fine, but if he's got a collar probably someone is looking for him. You should post in the lost and found section of craigslist and in the pet section (if you haven't already). I can help with this if you need. Just send me a PM. Flyers would also be a good idea. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Want him if we can't find his owner?

Thank you for getting them posted! The link was the best I could do!

Let's pray he's chipped, but you have all your bases covered so hopefully if someone is missing him they are covering all their bases to find him. Thanks for taking this boy in. It's always nice to see good animal lovers :hurray:

I could never have left him wandering down the road. He had no fear of cars and would most likely have been hit. DH agrees I did the right thing in bringing him home to find the owner. HOWEVER, the one problem with us keeping him right now is that my children are all becoming WAY too attached. They "know" we can't keep him (3 kids and two dogs already = full house!), but they don't realize he will be going bye-bye.....If anyone wants this adorable guy, let me know and I'll keep in touch if we don't locate the original owners.

I have been wanting a new dog and tried to bring a puppy home the other day to see how she did with my two dogs and she was fine but all of a sudden I started to break out in hives and was apparently suddenly allergic! It broke my heart because this girl was so sweet but it had to have been the dog that was causing me to get sick (I was also having trouble breathing). Anyway, I would totally take him if I could. If you do end up keeping him I'm sure you know about the low cost spay/neuter programs and you could ask the vet for dog food samples just to have a little extra. Hopefully the kiddies understand that you are looking for his home and that they're only babysitting!

    Here's what I would do -

Go by any vets office with him and ask them to scan him for a microchip (it's free)

Have flyers ready and post one in the vets office if he doesn't have a chip.

Put flyers up in all of the convenience stores/gas stations near where you found him.

Call the shelter (Johnston County) and see if someone phoned in a lost dog. They will let you give a description (they might even have an email form they can send you to fill out) and they will post it at the shelter and compare it to any calls they have coming in. The shelter will NOT come out and get him - UNLESS you ask them to - they have plenty of doggies already and would likely be more than happy if he stayed with you while searching for his home.

Call the SPCA of WAKE - many people outside of Wake County call in Lost and Found animals to the Wake SPCA - I know this for a fact - I worked there for a year and volunteered for 3 years. They will check his description against any lost forms they have (they also may have one online you can use)

I would call all vets in the area - give a description or ask if you can email his picture. Someone distraught over their lost pet may call their vet on the off chance it might have been injured and brought there.

If you can't find his family and DO get attached -

"The SPCA of Wake is opening a spay/neuter clinic for the public!!

    Rates are (at this time);

    F dog $45
    M dog $40
    F cat $35
    m cat $30

This is JUST the spay/neuter surgery."

They are taking appointments now from what I've read. If you get your animal altered here you can also get Rabies vax and yearly shots for reasonable fees. Johnston County residents are welcome there.

Good luck and thanks for getting him off the street! He's terribly cute!

As cute as this one is, if he went to Jo.Co. animal shelter, he would end up being fostered until adopted. I don't have a foster right now (because my last one got too attched, so now she's mine.) I'd love to have this one visit for awhile. That is, if you can't find his owner, of course. Talk to Lisa at the shelter.

He's back home!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!! We had posted info in the area around Short Journey/Swift Creek, and his owners saw the poster and have picked him up. My children are now moping around the house a little, and our dogs are acting all depressed because their new friend is gone. I'm just glad for a happy ending.

That puppy had a fun adventure. :) Hopefully those dog owners thanked you for taking care of their baby. When we took in a 'lost dog' ... the owners were so grateful they offered us one of the puppies after she had her litter. That lost dog was a pregnant dalmation. Beautiful dog that we had even taken to the vet b/c we knew she was gonna have puppies soon. Vet didn't charge us b/c half way through the owners had gone around walking through the neighborhood and one of the neighbors had known we had taken her to the vet (it was during one of our horrendous snow storms). So we got the phone call saying the owners were sitting on our porch waiting for us.

Unfortunately, the dog ran away again and she didn't come to our house I still wonder where Petey went. Bless her heart. BUT, because of Petey ... we adopted one dog from the spca and brought one dog home from another house that didn't want her anymore. So we were blessed twice just b/c we fell in love with Petey.

I that is so wonderful!! You did such a great thing and I too hope they really appreciated it (I'm sure they did!). Also, your kids need to know what an awesome thing they did as well. (And they might not grasp it now but they'll look back one day and see it). Thanks again for being such a wonderful neighbor and animal lover. :grouphug:
