Is the school board meeting closed or open? Perhaps those of you who can should show up at the meeting to voice your concern.

So, they are having the meeting when most of the folks paying their salary via taxes are at WORK. Imagine that. :banghead:

The school board is underhanded and incredibly politically driven. They are sneaking this through because through our votes we finally elected a majority that do NOT agree with the autonomy given to Dr. Parker and the contract extensions given throughout the years.

Kay Carroll has been lodged up Dr. Parker's butt for years. He is leaving. The effort to get this through is to get Parker locked up for years even if his "boys" aren't on the board anymore. Dorothy Johnson and Butler are aligned with him as well and will be the only 2 left after the new wave comes in. That's why they were contacted. Believe me, the others care. Larry and Donna have been fighting for sensibility for years now. Hopefully their voices will be heard louder once the new wave comes in.

Does anyone know if this was discussed at today's School Board meeting or was this a hoax? I checked "Urban Legends" and they do not have any comments.

Dr. Parker announced his resignation. Three others will follow. Probably more after the new board members start ruffling feathers.

    Does anyone else smell cronyism?

    More..and this from MSNBC....

Johnston County Schools Superintendent Anthony Parker resigned at a board meeting in Smithfield Wednesday afternoon.

"After 35 years, it's just that time," Parker said. He will stay with the district through July 1, 2009.

Three assistant superintendents also resigned Wednesday afternoon. They are: Ann Williams, superintendent for facilities services; E.D. Hall, superintendent for technology and accountability; and Joyce Wade, superintendent for human resources. They will all leave the district as of June 1, 2009. Hall and Wade are retiring.

Three board members are also leaving the district. Chairman Kay Carroll did not run for reelection for his seat. Board members Fred Batholomew and Jack O'Hale are retiring.
    ..........................................................
Maybe, just maybe, some parents who feel their needs have been unheard will now be able to have their views known.

I certainly hope that we will have a smooth transition with new hires.

This county just lost a great man and a superintendent. He has done an excellent job. By the way, Wake pays their superintendent $312,790.

You have not only lost a good man we have lost 2 excellent women. Joyce Wade and Ann Williams were excellent in their positions. Joyce Wade is a fine person and has always been dedicated to the students of Johnston county.

I agree the women have done a good job. As for Dr Parker - I've seen too many under-handed operations take place - whether or not he was responsible, I can't say for sure, but it seemed that way. I think it was time for a change - hopefully a better one.

They couldn't bear the thoughts of working with a Republican majority.

What were some of the things you think were done wrong? I think there was a cult of personality and the administration tended to run things like a dictatorship and did not tolerate criticism from anyone.

The boss is always responsible for things under his or her watch, good, bad, or indifferent. I too felt that too many "behind the closed door" decisions were made, with issues that should have been in the light of day. Whatever happened to open government and transparency?

These folks have done an admirable job, for the most part. None of them, I point out, are indispensable.

Change can be a positive thing.

Don't know about the others, but for Joyce Wade it might just be a case of its time to retire. She taught me in 8th grade 34 years ago...and she wasn't a first year teacher then. So she might have been planning to retire regardless.

    Dr Parker's Resignation

Hurrah!!! I agree with all the underhanded dealings going on behind closed doors. I think it says bundles that you don't feel you can work with a conservative majority. The good ole boys band has been disbanded.
