Well after taking over 12 years off I'm back in school and am being forced to take Intermediate Algebra...math is my worst subject. This is my 2nd attempt, the first time I failed it. If I don't pass it this time I'm seriously thinking I should drop out of college because I can't get this required course passed!! :banghead:

Anyway does anyone know of any tutors, people, etc that can help in the Clayton area?

Thanks for all of your help!

Call one of the schools in your area and ask the question. Maybe a teacher could use a few extra bucks.

Don't feel too bad, I am in college right now after about 14 years and having to take Algebra also.
If there is anything I can help you with I will try, or maybe we can figure it out together...I would hope.

Shoot me a PM if you want..
    Good Luck

I was in your shoes few years ago. What I did was to make an appointment with my college counselor and he referred me to see the director of college math. The director assigned me to the math tutor lab (free) and they are very helpful. Try contacting Math Department and see what they have to offer for you. By the way, I passed on my 2nd try.

There are some great software programs for math. I paid $25 at Staples for one my kid used in High School. It helped quite a bit when she'd come crying to me for help. I'm not sure where it is, but I'll give her a call to find it and PM you.

    :iagree:

Most math departments have tutoring programs and those tutors are more familiar with the program than any other tutor. Getting ahead of the instructor may create problems.

I took intro to Algebra last semester and I'm taking college algebra w/ trig this year.

    I hate math.

In case that wasn't clear enough, I hate math.

Talk to your instructor and ask for extra help. I wish I could help you, but I can barely help myself through this, lol...

Thanks for all the posts. I appreciate it. I'm going to see if the ILC (Individualized Learning Center) @ Wake Tech can help me. The only thing is everytime I go there it is so packed with other students they can only spend a minimal time with me and all my stupid math questions. Oh well, I have to make it work this time. That book and software post was a good idea, I might need to check out Algebra for Dummies for this dummy!!

Have a great weekend, all! I'll be doing homework!

I just finished the same class after my 3rd attempt. The ILC will definately be able to help you and I hope you are taking a seated class and not online. If your are taking a seated class at WT, who is your instructor?

Sad to say that I'm actually taking an online class. I have a really crazy schedule at work (Tues - Fri from 7-6 as well as being on-call during the weekends) so it just wasn't feasible to take a seated class. My instructor is Smeal, I believe. :?

    Algebra on Youtube

My son was studying for mid terms last week and was trying to remember how to do some of the algerbra problems. A quick search on youtube and it has videos of teachers actually explaining and working the problems on a chalk board. You have to search by the name of the problem type like a Binomial Factor.
