hey, i am in desperate need for some advise from you middle school parents. i do not know where to send my child for middle school. i have heard very unfavorable rumors, comments and concerns about cleveland middle school and i am afraid to send my child there. i have even heard negative comments by teachers who will not send their children there but also would not teach there. i have requested a reassignment form and considering clayton middle and/or the neuse charter school. i was told at cleveland middle if you are in aig you would get the best teachers and better cailber of students. however, if not in aig your child would get some sorry teachers who do not care. i do not want to make a major mistake. it seems middle school is very tough for girls. any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.:banghead:

I have a 7th grader at CMS, and really, have not had any major issues, little things here and there, but nothing major. As far as having a better 'caliber' of students/teachers in AIG vs regular classes, I have to disagree. The teachers that I have met over the past 2 have been very professional and kind, and have helped my son when he's 'strayed', his classmates/friends for the most part are good kids, as with every school you will have good and bad, and it's up to you as to where you are going to feel comfortable having your child at. When we were moving, one of our search criterias was staying in the CMS zone, as that is where I felt comfortable sending my children.

I've had MAJOR issues at Cleveland Middle School. It got so bad I took two of them out last year and continue to homeschool them. I currently have yet another child that does go there. Not happy still but kind of "stuck" in the situation. If you can avoid going, I would. However, highly doubt you'll get reassigned unless you are not districted for CMS. Write me privately if you want more. And yes, middle school girls do have it rough.

Do you really have the option to reasign? I didn't know that was possible.

yes, you can reassign, I have a few teachers in my neighborhood who have had their kids reassigned to various middle schools. These teachers do not all teach on the middle school level.

DD goes to CMS, and aside from normal teacher/kid stuff, I haven't had issues. There was one time that I was disappointed at how a situation was handled, and the principal was very assertive and very approachable. She handled my concerns professionally.

I would say, don't believe everything you hear.... And, shoot me if you want to,but I don't think you should be allowed to reassign to another school just because you've "heard" bad things.

First off let me say that I am with Jennifer. You should not be allowed to be reaasigned because of things you have heard. Why is your student any better than the rest of ours to deserve something different?

Secondly, we have been at Cleveland for 4 years now. I have 2 daughters that have gone through there one even went for 5th grade when they had the 5th graders there while West View was being built. We have never had any real issues with the school. And no mine are not AIG students and don't feel like they have gotten any different treatment than their AIG friends. Of course you are going to have things that you may not completely agree with because no school is perfect but over all I have no problems sending the other 2 through Cleveland Middle School. The teachers are awesome there no real problems and their office staff is very nice and friendly. I have seen some out in the community and they will stop and speak.

I know Cornith Holders school is the only school that the parents have a choice to enroll or not because of the poor performance of the school itself..

Teachers no matter what level seem to be able to do things where reassignment is conserned that the rest of us are not able to do. You have to have a valid reason or the school has to offer something your school doesn't to be reassigned and the school cannot be "capped" which most Johnston County Schools are. I would not get your hopes up.

I too am a CMS parent and have never had a problem. In order to be reassigned you have to have a valid reason, not hear say. You can be reassigned based on a medical concern or admin assignment that both go through the school board for approval. Hear say is not a valid reason, nor is what others are doing. Sorry.

I was nervous at first about having a child in middle school and all of the puberty and mental issues that kids go through during these years, but I finally decided to trust that the morals and ethics that I taught my children would help them. In my personal belief, I believe that you can shelter a child too much and they can miss out on a lot of things, both positive and negative. This will help the child in their maturation and help them become an adult that will be productive citizens in life. Every child get picked on in their life, made fun of, gets a bad teacher, etc... but that is part of growing up and learning that dissapointment is a part of life and a learning process. Everyone has ideas and opinions that they believe are right, but I have to believe that sheltering a child too much will do more harm than good. Trust that your child will do the right thing. Sometimes they will do the wrong thing and you can chalk it up to a life learning lesson. Kids can be cruel and relentless, but children will get through it and it will make them tougher and a better person. Trust what you have taught your children and trust that they will do the right thing.

Personally, I have no objections to Cleveland Middle School. My daughter has made straight A's since she became a student there and I can't say that for elementary school. She absolutely loves school and surrounds herself with other students like minded.

Teachers should be able to get extra benefits as part of their benefit package. Everyone else gets special benefits at their job.
