I did a search on this subject and I couldnt find anything. I need a recomendation for an eye doctor in the area. It has been a while since I have been and I'm pretty sure my eyes have changed. I don't want to order new contacts or glasses until I get a check-up. Also I do not have insurance so one that accepts a couple of payments would be great. I was searching some places in the area online to see if I could find a coupon for like a $99 exam or something like that. Any input would be apprectiated.

We go to Walmart and I think their exams are around $70. Excellent service and SO on top of things. Dr. E is great! He is the one that a couple years ago figured out something may seriously be wrong w/ my son's vision. I had no idea. Sure enough, RP(retinitis pigmentosa--going blind eventually). My other daughter has optic nerve hypoplasia and my son and I both wear glasses. Obviously, we need someone who knows what they're doing. He does, costs are reasonable and no troubles so far. We'd been to Eye Deals before but did not like the bedside manner of the doctor there. Everyone is differnet though. Had lots of luck in the past w/ Optimetric EyeCare Center but then they got rather expensive. Good luck and hope that gives you some options.

This is where we go. We love them. You can always call them and see what they say about breaking down payments.

Dr. Dean Strickland is a great Eye Doctor- first eye doc to diagnose my glaucoma. If you have kids that play sports, I would highly recommend him. He also takes pics for the Clayton News Star, Smithfield Herald and Garner News. Your child would most likely make it into one of these papers. I had to leave him to go to Doctor's Vision Center because it was hard to get an appointment with Dr. Strickland because he was always out taking pics and I work in Raleigh and couldn't make it in before he closes for the day. Mr. and Mrs. Salter from Doctor's Vision are both lovely people and their staff is always friendly.

I use Dr Haimes on Brightleaf by Golden Corral. I have been pleased with his care as well as the help of the specialists when picking out glasses.

    Sorry

It is Dr. Haines - they also have an opthamologist in the same office if that service is necessary.

WHOA NELLIE!!!! Honey, DO NOT buy glasses from your Dr's office. Go to Zenni optcital and buy them they are DIRT CHEAP , Clark Howard says so and so does JK!

JK posted about them on the *money matters* section and you can visit clarkhoward.com for the website.

Oh yes, I know better than to buy contacts and glasses from the Dr's office. I get my contacts online and plan to do the same with the glasses but I appreciate that!!

I will third Dr. E. but I strongly recommend that you do not buy glasses from Zenni Optical.

For the health of your eyes, you should be fitted properly by a licensed optician instead or purchasing glasses online.

Clark Howard is not a an optician so you should not take advice from him.

    QUESTION?

What is Dr. E's full last name? Is he at the Clayton Walmart on Rt 70 or did he happen to move over to the new Walmart on 42?

    Thanks!

Dr. E. lives up the street from me. Great guy & KNOWS his stuff. He is the one that first recognized that my son may be going blind. Told me to go to either UNC or Duke & did not finish the exam. He felt it was that urgent & I can't thank him enough. He sees 7 of the 9 of us. 2 of my kids have to see specialists for their eyes due to their conditions. Anyhow, his knowledge is invaluable for sure. And, he does NOT pressure you. One of my kids "could" have gotten glasses but he said he'd be fine w/out them. Sure enough, he's fine w/out them.

Anyhow, his name is Dr. Eggleston and he's still in the Hwy. 70 Walmart. Good luck.

I agree zennioptical.com is the way to go. You can afford to buy 3 and still loose a pair!

I agree. Stay far away from Eyedeals, Huge Rip off. If you have access to the V/A that would be your best bet. if not try the Wal-mart. they seem to know what they are doing.
