I want a Garmin and need recommendations
I don't know a lot about them so would like for it to be user friendly.
    I don't need a high end one.
I would like the wide screen poss.

Ours is a Nuvi 350, I don't know if they still make that one or if a newer model# has replaced it.

I believe we have the 205 - not the wide screen and we're very happy with it!

Yeah.. definitely love the "text to speach" feature. That means that it will say "Turn left in 500 feet on Cornwallis Rd.", instead of just "turn left in 500 ft". I think it keeps my eyes on the road if it tells me the street name that I should be looking for, instead of trying to see just where it is I need to turn on the little screen.

Girl, I had to get from Oberlin Rd over to Blue Ridge Rd and if I didn't have my Nuvi, I'd still be driving around the beltline!:lol:

    Heres a funny...

we bought a TomTom for my in-laws for their anniversary, before we gave it to them DH took it out of the box, downloaded any upgrades and made sure it worked ok. Well, in the process, he found you could download different voices, we downloaded Bubba the Redneck...OMG.. I laughed so hard when I listened to the samples, I almost peed my pants!! The in-laws first trip with TomTom was to West Virginia, so I thought Bubba was appropriate, they just couldn't take him after the first day and had to change back to one of the default voices. They said he talked so slow because of the southern-drawl that by the time he finished saying where to turn they'd about missed it!

200 Wide screen (easier on the old eyes) and it works great, although I emailed them a complaint today on their map up dating process.

I've got the 205W (wide screen) and love it -- it's very easy to use.

I've got the basic Nuvi 200. It's a necessity in my job and I love it. Next time, I might get one that says the name of the roads and has a wider screen, but the one I have is great.

We have the Nuvi 650 widescreenn and love it. Here's a link that shows how to change voices http://www8.garmin.com/vehicles/howtoinstall/voices.html The first thing you should do after getting it is go to the support page at Garmin and download and updates. We downloaded a new software update and a free update to the 2009 streets software. They only give you a certain period for any free updates and then start charging you after that so it's important to do it right away. Good luck.

I recently bought the nuvi265. It's got text-to-speech, and one added bonus: It has free traffic search service for the live of the product.

Whenever there's rough traffic on main roads, it gives you a heads up, and can detour. We recently drove to florida for Christmas, and it successfully detoured us around a two-hour delay in less than 20 minutes.

They do make a 265w as well...
