    Hey...
When I go to "My Computer" to do a disk clean up or check disk and click "properties" the whole thing freezes up. Nothing happens, says "not responding". Then I close the window and all my short cut icons on on the screen disappear. I have to wait a few minutes and they all come back.

If there is another way to do a disk clean up what is it and will that solve my problem with the freezing up?

Please answer so a third grader can understand. :allears:

    Disk Clean up

    Nsane,

Sometimes the problem is with with the Windows clean up itself. Because it is built into Windows if there is any file corruption it could affect if it works. If your system is slow to respond after "ending the non responsive task" it could be that your system has other problems such as malware or a virus or is just to cluttered and fragmented to perform the task.

What I would do first is run a virus scan and spyware scan. There are several programs that can be used. AVG is a very good virus scanner. I use Ad-aware, Spybot Search & Destroy and Malware Bytes for the malware scan ( I use 3 because there is always atleast one thing that one program will miss that the other will pick up).

Depending on your PC knowledge I would then do a registry clean up. Then lastly a disk defrag. There are also "freeware programs taht work better than their Windows counterparts to perform these tasks.

If after all of that you still can't get it to do a cleanup you can download another program called Cleanup! It works just like windows cleanup except I think that it does a better job.

    Hope this helped a little.

I did AVG and Adaware. The worked fine. Found more cookies and 4 trojans
I tried the Malware Bytes and it wouldn't go. First time it got five seconds into the scan and it froze up. Got that straightened out and tried again and it went for only three seconds.. 4k+ files... I'm going to look for Cleanup!

When you look for the cleanup up program in your search engine make sure you put the exclamation point after it. "cleanup!"
