I have gotten my fair share of tickets in my day. But they have luckily always been here in Johnston County.. until now. I recently received a speeding ticket in Dare County. I have no idea how to go about dealing with this one. I certainly do not want to drive out there again. Do I contact a local lawyer's office. Or do I try to discover one in Dare County? And advice or feedback would be wonderful!

An attorney in the county would be the better choice financially. You will most likely be contacted by most of the available firms once the charges are filed.

Slow down before you kill yourself or someone else. It's harsh, but it's the truth. Too many folks dying in JoCo in accidents.

Well at least he left the county, in this case, when he decided to put his life and others at risk.

And if memory serves he has talked about quite a few run ins with the law for speeding so I don't have any pity. I mean how many tickets before you learn? It may take hurting or killing themselves or someone else to learn and then it's too late. I know, it's bitchy, but just at this moment a lady that a used to work withs grown daughter is lying in a hospital bed in a coma that she has been in since Friday when she had a single car accident and ran into a tree -- due to speeding.

Well most accidents seem to happen to the teenagers of Johnston County. And a lot of it has to do with drinking. So if you have a kid then maybe you should be watching yourself more closely. As for myself, I refuse to drink.

And there was absolutely no one on the road when I was driving. So the only person in danger was myself. And you obviously wouldn't care if I was wrapped around a tree anyways.

Not to mention it went from 65 to 40 as soon as you reached the end of the bridge. With only a reduce speed sign in sight. So don't judge or hate on anyone. I asked for advice or decent feedback. Not bitching from bored goodie goodies that have never done wrong in their life apparently.

Thank you Wayne. Your completely right.

I just drive within the speed limits and follow the rules of the road. Never gotten a ticket. Just because I suggest people slow down (for the safety of themselves and others for crying out loud!) doesn't mean that I drive like Grandma Moses.

Once the charges are filed at the courthouse you will receive a mailbox full of lawyers from in and around the Dare County area. You may select one of those or you may contact a lawyer here which you might already know and ask if they know or or recommend any lawyers in and around the Dare County area.

The purpose of using the services of the Dare County lawyer and not a Johnston County lawyer is because he will do all the legal work there; filing and such. You would be in contact with him and his office via phone and snail mail.

    VG,
Bigblock was probably talking about me. I drive between 55-60 on the interstate, whether driving the Winnebago, the Saturn, Trailblazer or cycle. I don't drive the maximum speed limit, choosing better fuel efficiency over the few seconds saved.

I'd go online and scout around a bit for a Dare County attorney who will likely know the Clerk of Court, DA, Asst. DAs, judges, etc. They'll take your $300+ and if its your first offense in three years, give you something like a improper equipment. I got my second ticket and got a reduction from 70 in a 55 to 53 in a 45 zone. They told me the next would be a prayer for judgement. The state writes nearly a half a million speeding tickets every year and if you pay the attorney fees, most will bail you out of the insurance points that mostly everyone worries about. Speed enforcement is big business.

I'd recommend to anyone who drives a lot, spring for a Valentine One detector. There's nothing better for sniffing out radar. Mine can pick up radar from up to 4 miles away. I went for years without any tickets and then the first was on a day I forgot my V1. The second ticket was with laser. Laser is tricky. Most laser detectors can't react in time. You have to jam them and that gets into serious money. For those that just "go with the flow" I suggest a top notice radar detector which most law enforcement use primarily since laser requires the officer be sitting still to check speed. Laser usually is used off of overpasses and in work zones.
