I am looking into replacing carpet for part of my townhome. I got an estimate from Empire for about $1,700. That was their low end carpet for about 500 sq ft of space. It did include: Moving furniture, removing the current carpet and disposal, installation of new carpet. So $1,700 was the bottom line for everything.

I was just wondering if anyone on here has replaced carpet lately and could give me something to compare with and who did the carpeting. Thanks

Do you remember the price with Garner carpet?
I am going to check with Lowes and Home Depot, but though I would also check hear as well. I am just amazed at how much 4042ers are so helpful. So thanks very much.

Home Depot has an installation of flooring special going on right now - can't remember exactly what it is but when we were in there the other day the signs were everywhere.

You guys rock. I guess I could have spent a little more time researching myself. I write that off as laziness, but you guys definitely rock. Thanks so much.

That's OVER $30.00 A YARD for what you say is low end carpet. My guess is can get it done from Lowes or somebody local for about half that.

Go talk to David at Clayton Flooring and Design Center (11155 Us Hwy 70 W Clayton, NC 27520-2380 (919) 359-0420). They replaced vinyl floor for us at a very competitive rate and we have referred several people to him for carpet replacement. Everyone we sent his way ended up using him for their carpet. It's worth a try. We always try to spend our money with local businesses first.

Real Deal Flooring on S. Saunders St in Raleigh has some good deals. They will negotiate on price as well.

A friend of mine uses a flooring company up at the 40/210 shopping area. She's very picky and she's used them more than once, says they have a better selection and prices than Lowes. Even with Lowes 'install' special, I think she said they charge you more for other things like moving the furniture - so be sure to ask about that kind of stuff when comparing prices.

I think Lowes website said the price includes moving "normal" furniture, whatever that means.

I think she said they charged per piece of furniture vs the other places gave a flat rate for all or something like that. Anyway - like I said, as with all quotes, just make sure you're comparing apples to apples...........

We just ordered carpet from Lowes. When the person came to measure I asked if they move furniture, removed the old carpet, etc... I was told 'yes'. When I went to see the estimate I learned the $139 does NOT include carpet removal and moving furniture. Those tasks were going to be something like an additional $99. The salesperson did not mention the extra costs either.

I have always heard that Empire is the highest. There are sooo many local guys around that you can shop around and do better than what they quoted you.
