I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best (most inexpensive) place to get outdoor carpet. I'd like to replace the carpet on my screened in porch. I think it's about 10footx20foot. Thanks!!!

The Habitat for Humanity Restore in Raleigh is worth a look see. They have tons of stuff like that.

Actually, someone else just suggested Habitat for Humanity too so I think I'll take exact measurements tonight and then check it out tomorrow. Thanks!

What do you do when it gets wet? Been thinking of some way to forget about painting the floor. THANKS

Mine is covered and screened so the only time it ever gets wet is when we have high winds while raining. I have not had any issues with it yet.

We got ours at Rose's in West Smithfield. Really cheap as I recall. You can buy it by the foot or they have some finished rugs as well. Ours is like thin carpet, not the rough stuff. It rarely gets wet, but dries out quickly on the screen porch.

Another place to check if you plan on DIY is Ollie's Bargains in Cary. I was in there the other week, and they had a buch of indoor/poutdoor carpet precut rolls for fairly cheap. Ollie's is in the shoppong center across from the Cary Mall where the TJ Maxx is. It's in the old Winn Dixie/Magnolia Marketplace slot.

I used a commercial looped carpet made of olefin fiber (polypropylene) for my mother's screened-in porch. Olefin's advantages are its strength & bulk, colorfastness, comfort and stain/mildew/abrasion/sunlight resistance. (and commercial carpet itself does not look like plastic grass...unless that's the look you want!)

Mom built her new house on the family farm around 1995 and the outdoor carpet still looks great! I do suggest that if you will have deckboards underneath and no matter what carpet you choose, install some plywood over the decking/existing carpet and "spot glue" the new carpet onto the plywood or simply staple it around the perimeter. It will be nice and smooth compared to going over decking and can be installed over your existing carpet (if no mildew, problems, etc. exist) without having to scrap up the old.

Check flea markets, carpet stores (along with places mentioned in earlier posts), etc. for remnants and don't only check for "turf" carpet... check out your other carpet options. Good Luck!

Yeah, I'm definately not going for the plastic grass looking carpet at all. Thanks for the info!

FYI-It's usually only available in Lowe's and Home Depot during the summer months, as it is considered a seasonal item.
