It lies at an elevation of 243 feet (74 m). The settlement is also known as Cleveland Crossings, Cleveland Community, Cleveland Township or 40/42, so named for the intersection of I-40 and NC 42 that serves as the center of the community. NY9 of 4042.com is clueless as usual.

There have been several efforts to incorporate the fast-growing community, though the issue was tabled by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1999. Since there is already a town known as Cleveland, North Carolina elsewhere in the state, the name of the proposed incorporated town has been a minor point of contention.[2] Thousands of new homes have been built in the community, making it one of the faster growing areas in Johnston County. Its location at a major interchange along Interstate 40 has made it a burgeoning business center.[3]

Since I can not have my Cleveland Grove I vote for Cleveland School. Now lets get off our collective duffs and get cracking on this before Garner or Clayton try to incorporate us. The clock is ticking

Nothing died. It is just that more prominent place names like Clayton and Garner have taken the forefront as those communities have grown.

There are county maps available for purchase that do show townships, as well as ZIP code area, fire/rescue dept. areas, and other information. I don't know of any map that has ever shown this area as just "Cleveland." Townships are geographic divisions that are used primarily to locate real estate. All NC deeds show the township in which the property is located, and the township doesn't necessarily coincide with the place name. For example, Benson is in Banner township; Kenly is in Beulah Township; Princeton is in Boon Hill township; etc.

If there can be towns called Lizard Lick and Intercourse, I don't think Cleveland School should be a problem. :jester:

The 40/24 area should DEFINITELY incorporate. Residents of the area can either control their own destiny or have someone else do it for them. (Incorporation should probably have come about 10 years ago!)

I believe that Clayton will support the forming of the new municipality just as they are supporting Archer Lodge which is much closer to Clayton's 2 mile ETJ. The Town of Clayton does not wish to annex the area (lots of retail, but already too congested with a hodge-podge of shoddy infractucture and Clayton lacks the desire to provide water/sewer.) Clayton and Garner would benefit from regulated and controlled development in the area, however.

Incorporation is the smart move for all concerned.

We've had a grand total of 4 people visit/join the website that was developed.

Again, the name of the area is nowhere near being discussed, much less decided. If we allow this issue to be at the forefront, we'll never get past it.

Issues, at the forefront of my mind...

    Q1. Pursue incorporation or not?
Q2. If yes to Q1, support for a steering committee to follow to begin community wide dissemination of info, solicit opinion, advice, pro's and con's.
Q3. Steering committee will follow open door/sunshine porvisions, with meetings advertised ahead of time and open to owners/residents of proposed inclusion areas.
Q4. Connect with Archer Lodge steering committee and seek advise/assistance so as to not reinvent the wheel. (At this point, if the Archer Lodge paperwork was in a MS Word (R) document, I'd consider the edit/replace function, and wherever it indicated Archer Lodge, replace with (Insert name here).
Q5. Discussion of legal issues for incorporation. Begin search for attorney to represent incorporation plan. PRO BONO would be
    Q6. proposed area/boundaries
Q7. Services to be provided initially.
Q8. ad infinitum or ad nauseum..your call.
