http://www.wtsbradio.com/pages/localnews.html A year of weekends in jail and a few hours of community service is all that life was worth? I hope whatever he drank that night was worth taking a life. :x
Not trying to excuse him by any means, but maybe the judge determined that the guy could do some good by not going to prison. Since the sentence is for weekends, it's probable that the guy has a job, a very good background or a family to feed. Again, I'm not trying to defend him, but there were probably reasons for the decision. Also, since the sentence is so light, it's likely that the guy hired an expensive lawyer. That's where judges come from, it's a good ole boy network of the worst kind.
Wonder if the man who was killed had a family he is now unable to help feed. "Very good background" ... interesting criteria for sentencing. He's only killed one person because of his poor judgement and careless behavior. Drinking and driving is a choice. If you choose poorly ... pay the consequence.
Yeah I'm not disagreeing with you that he got off easy. Not at all. Just trying to figure out what the judge was thinking. By background, I was referring to his criminal background, or other contributions he may have made, not his lineage.
I wonder what the judge was thinking too, seriously. ... A life was wasted. The punishment doesn't fit the crime. I agree with ncmom. Drinking and driving is a choice. And because of his choice a life was lost.
Sign of the times !! Unfortunately in today’s world this punishment does fit the crime ! Our justice system is overloaded and our jails are overcrowd with harden criminals that have done much worse then this guy did and in some are serving lighter sentences then this. This is truly very unfortunate but it is a sign of our times. The majority of us are law abiding citizens and we need to start voicing our concerns to the politicians to make a change.
Killing someone is about a worse as I think a crime can get. Getting behind the wheel **loaded** is no different than playing with a loaded gun.
NCMOM I agree.... but accidentally killing someone with a loaded gun is still a 'lesser' crime in the eyes of the courts then premeditated murder. Then you have criminals out on our streets that have ciminal histories that span decades that include numerous differnent voilent crimes. Dont get me wrong if our world was right this guy should have to sit in jail long time.
Then you have folks, who on the scale of things, did much less and get life without the possibikity of parole. Just look at the cases the Supreme Court decided to look at this week. A 13 year old could be with 5 of his friends and one of his friends pulls a gun a shoots someone. Even though the 13 year old didn't know it would happen, he is behind bars forever.
