We have bought several things for my DS's XBox 360 for Christmas and now last night when he turned it on, there is an E74 error and it won't work! Anyone know how to fix this? Or is there anyone local that can do it without charging the $150 it would take to mail it back to Microsoft to get it fixed? I will have to start taking back presents to get it fixed because we don't have the money to pay for it. This will ruin his Christmas~
E74: I/O Hardware Error - HSIO related, could be crc error, or many things: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. Microsoft covers this error under their 3-year warranty, this is availble to anyone who hasn't modified their console. contact MS to get a free replacement console before attempting to fix this yourself. Failing that this error In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see error 0102) Error code 0102 refers you to error code 18, so here's that one: E18: Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM), this is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard. There are two theories to fixing this one deals with the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves re-Heating the chips. DO NOT attempt either of these if your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it was purchased or call MS to have it replaced. Wish I could wave a magic wand but alas, no wand here. Good luck.
So the warranty was extended for 3 years???:allears: This was his Christmas present 2 years ago but I don't have any proof of that. Don't have the box, receipt, etc. so will they still exchange it at the store? Everything I have seen says that it would take 2-4 weeks minimum to repair and return it.
According to the Microsoft site, the only thing that's covered for 3 years is the three red light error. I actually fixed that problem when it happened last year but this is not covered, I don't think. Anyone know of someone locally that could fix it for less??
