Mine was a 1986 Ford Escort; it wasn't new but I bought it that same year. I purchased the car on Friday night and got my license on Saturday. Mind you, I was 18 at the time...I was a late bloomer getting my license due to some legal name issues. Man, I went everywhere and thought I was somebody! So, while my soon-to-be 16yo and I have been looking for his first automobile, I have reminded him that his 1st car may not be exactly what he wants but he will have to work for something better. Of course I have had to tell him the story of how I had to walk to work, uphill both ways, to make the money to buy my car. So, we will find something cheap (but safe) for now and then in the summer, he can get a job and start paying for insurance, gas, etc. and hopefully saving for something he really wants.
First year driving in 1988 it was a 1974 Buick Century with a 350. It was my daddys he gave it to me, I creased the side of the car within the 1st week.
1976 Orange Chevy Vega wagon! I soon discovered that my parents had an ulterior motive, everyone recognized that car and every time I was where I shouldn't be someone was sure to mention that they saw the orange car.
first vehicle was a 1971 Dodge pick up with a 440 big block in it. looked like this but in 2 tone blue
1974 Ford Torino Squire station wagon, metallic blue with wood panelling. The Ultimte Chick repellent!! http://stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/files/1/1974_ford_pinto_squire_station_wagon1.jpg
A 1978 Ford grenada! A tank on wheels!!! Thank goodness though because on my way to school one day, a lady whose husband was just in an accident turned in front of me in a hurry to get to him and crashed into me. Her car was ruined and mine, not so much!!
i had the oldest so far but i loved that car - Daddy givith and then Daddy tooketh away when i got caught letting someone else drive it - '67 Camaro convertible 4-speed, loved that car. i had to pay insurance, gas, maintenance, etc though and only reason he gave it to me was because i got a job at 15 and needed transportation and it was just pretty much sitting at his house. Even though it was old when i got it you would never have known it.
8) 1957 MGA - Paid $350.00. Cheap ride back then ('71), Sold for $300.00 - next was 1964 (Ithink) Triumph TR4, paid $400.00. Don't remember how much I got for it, but NEXT, was my, at the time, and would love to have it now, DREAM CAR, paid $1000.00 for my 1952 MGTD, had a '69 Volvo motor and tranny. Cam shaft started going bad so I drove it to Kinston and traded them even for my 1961 (again, I think) Jaguar E-Type convertible, asking price (1972) ONLY $1500.00. Those were the days!!! 8)
I was a senior in high school, 1986 and my mom bought me a 1982 Chevy Chevette, it was a silver hatchback. It was also a stick, I had to teach myself to drive it! My mom put herself as the lien on the title so that I couldn't sell it or trade it. After I graduated from college, she signed it over to me and I was able to get rid of it..... traded it for a 86' Chrysler Conquest Tsi....loved that car!
1985 Toyota Corolla Hatch - Baby crap brown Bought it from my Dad in my senior year and drove it through college. Sold it to a Duke Grad student with 181k miles on it and it still ran great!!! Even drove it to school in the mountains one time with no oil because I changed the oil and forgot to refill it so only what was left in there after the draining was what got me up there. Could not kill that car...and I tried LOL!!!!
Olds Cutlass... Got my license in 1982. First car was a 1973 Olds Cutlass 2 door with Rocket V8 and 4 bbl carb. Passed down from my mother when she got her new LeBaron convertible....
