Hi, I'm looking for a good, reasonable, honest place to go trail riding with my wife and 8 yr old. We're all inexperienced, with them riding a few times, and I've never been on a horse at all. I've tried searching in the area, and it seems a lot of people don't update their websites anymore. The places I've called don't offer riding anymore b/c of insurance. I know it's not super expensive, though some stables charge an arm and a leg. (I had the opportunity to ride in Western NC but due to weather was unable. and a 2.5 hr trail ride was $55.00 a person. So I'm using that as a basis.) Dead Broke Farms said it was 50 a person for a one hour ride!!!! No wonder they're Dead Broke! Any Ideas on where I can go locally (within an hours drive of 40/42) for the three of us and get a good experience for roughly the same I would have gotten in the Great Smokies?
This is in N. Raleigh but my son did a camp there and loved it and the staff. They were great: http://www.deadbrokehorsefarm.com/
On Cleveland Sch Rd, headed toward Garner and right after you cross into Wake County on the right hand side there is a man, Bill Harrington, that used to have a sign out that said he offered trail riding. Sometimes he still sells fresh produce but not sure if he still offers trail rides or not, and I honestly haven't noticed if the sign is still there or not. He still has horses in the fields though. You might try there. It is the same place that used to have the little farm tours and hayrides and petting the animals for preschoolers. I just can't remember the name of it though.
Here is a mini-update on the place I mentioned earlier: It is called Triple H Farm and the phone number is 772-8887, and the sign is still out there for boarding and trail riding and it looks like it has been freshly painted. Good luck! It is approx. a 1/2 mile past the wake county line, on the right, and there were several horses out there today that I could see while driving by.
