Has anyone ever been to the German Bakery stand at the Raleigh Farmers Market? I bought a piece of cake from there a couple of weeks ago,it wasn't that great plus when I asked how much it was was told $4.50,I asked her if that was for one or two pieces :x I bought one anyway since I was hungry at the moment but never again!

That would be complicated, first of all it's in German and you'll need German style farmers cheese which is not to be found around here,I make my own using buttermilk ;)

It is called Quark ;) however Kasekuchen is a little different since there the whole cake is baked compared to this one which is called Kaesesahne, for it you bake a cake in a springform pan first, let it cool then slice it in half.
The Quark is made the day before, you take 3/4 Gallon of whole buttermilk pour it in a ceramic bowl and put it in the oven for about 9 hours at the lowest temp. 170F.Then your pour it through a cheesecloth lined strainer and let it drain for several hours-done! The Quark mixture for this cake or also called Torte also contains whipped heavy cream,2 1/2 packages of Knox Gelatin and 2 cans of mandarin oranges plus sugar. This mixture is poured on top of the bottom half of the cake, you need to surround the cake with something called a Torte Ring which is an adjustable metal ring which keeps the Mixture from spilling out before it sets.I looked for a english version of the recipe but so far haven't found one,I'll keep on looking ;) The top half of the cake gets sliced and then put back on top,the cake needs to go in the fridge overnight in order for the Quark mixture to set completely.

About the only difference is that I added the 2 cans of drained mandarin oranges but peaches would be nice too!
I baked the cake batter at 350F.
